Road Bike Racing - Carolina Cup

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Is anyone planning on doing the http://www.carolinacup.com ?

I'm thinking about it. I just need to get my sht together. If I do it will be my last for the year. The thing I don't like about it is how damn short the races are, I mean 12.8 miles for a cat 4 race? Thats hardly worth it really. Maybe I am missing something there web site confuses me???

I will be there in the cat V. It is a short race for the drive. With so few races in this area not much choice.

Have you rode the Carolina Cup Cat V race before? This will be my first go at it and I am wondering what to expect. Thx!

I am in the same boat. No idea what to expect. It is kind of a weird short race. The only other one I have done was long so this should be new. I probably know some people who have done it so I should ask about how to approach it.

Keep me posted..........
I'm planning on it...if I feel good after the Cat 4 I'll do the open too since they're both so short.
The 10 hour round trip sucks, but I'm rolling it in with some archival research for which I have grant money, so I'm not paying for the gas at least.

I think its best to approach it like this: whistle blows, attack and pedal as hard as you can for 12.8 miles :D
I would like to race in the Junior 10-14 class, but dont know how ready I am. I dont have clipless pedals or anything-just cages. Should I enter anyway and see how I do?
Thanks,
Jake

Yes enter and see how you do. You got nothing to loose. Believe me even if you come in last place it will be fun.

The Carolina Cup registration is on Active.com http://www.active.com/event_detail.cfm?event_id=1247484
Fourth street Crit in Winston Salem on Fri
Tour of the Oaks (or Elms) Crit in Elon on Sat
Carolina Cup road race (sort of) in Greensboro on Sun
Is that confusing enough?

After looking at the description it seems the Carolina Cup road race is more of a criterium. It is held in a park on a short loop. Maybe I'll make it up there as a spectactor one of these days.
I went and rode the course today...did 14 laps(even though my race will only be 5). I was a pretty fast course...no real climbs or anything, but some nice downhills and flats. I am looking forward to the race...gonna buy my liscense online tomorrow.
See you there,
Jake
