Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - richard sachs bike on NYC craigslist

has anyone else been compulsively following this seemingly endless argument over the price of someone's used Sachs bike, against all their best efforts to ignore it? it's got to be up to like 30 posts by now. I couldn't resist posting this:

Greetings! I have been searching for quite some time for an appropriate forum to discuss the resale value of a Richard Sachs bicycle, and I am overjoyed to have finally found it here at Craigslist New York's bicycle classifieds.

While the opinions offered thus far have been very helpful, I SIMPLY MUST HAVE MORE. Please don't hold back - whether you gave Lance a draft on the mountain stage of the Tour or you haven't ridden a bicycle since you were ten and aren't really sure who Richard Sachs is, your thoughts on this most important subject matter a great deal and you should not hesitate to hold forth. However, please be sure to include your level of expertise in your post so that the subsequent poster can use that information in his or her rebuttal.

While the retail price of the Richard Sachs bicycle is a known constant, a variety of factors can influence the resale value, and these variables are precisely what we must hash out, in detail, if we are to properly assess the appropriate price. Is there a decal missing? Is the wheelset stock, or aftermarket? Is there one replaced component which does not match the rest of the group? Did someone's dog once pee on it? These things will affect the resale value and I NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THEM. I speak not only for myself, but for all those on Craigslist who are in the market for a two thousand dollar bicycle, which I would estimate is sixty to seventy percent of us.

For those here who insist on trying to buy and sell cheap used bicycles, I would beg you to stop thinking only of yourself. Your incessant attempts at low-stakes private commerce are very disruptive to our discussion of the value of a Richard Sachs bicycle. If you are seeking to buy or sell a bicycle of a value less than one thousand dollars, you should go to the bike store or put your old bicycle out with the trash, respectively.

We've got something special going here; for God's sake don't let it die now. Let's not stop until we all agree on the exact resale value of a used Richard Sachs bicycle in the each of the following conditions: (1) Showroom (2) Mint (3) Wall Decoration (4) Dead Sexy But A Couple Scratches (4) Excellent (5) Fair (6) Thrashed (7) Thrashed But Eddie Merckx Once Touched It With His Sweaty Choad (8) Totally Rusted to **** (9) Just Run Over By Garbage Truck.

Why all the fuss over these bicycles? those plebes among you may ask. For you, I say that there is nothing that compares to Sachs. Frankly, I just love Sachs. Holding Sachs in my hand and feeling the balance, wrapping my legs around Sachs and riding hard, even the smell of Sachs I find irresistible.

To the eternal glory of used Richard Sachs bicycles and the community we create together to honor them!

I'm only posting this here because frankly I was pretty proud of myself and I got no love from CL for it.

I'm currently debating whether to put 400$ down to get in "queue" for a Sachs, so this is interesting to me

comparing a sachs to colnago/pinarello/_insert 'italian mystique' brand here_ seems silly

you also have to figure in the 3 1/2 year wait for a sachs, yeah 2,000$ is a lot especially for a 20 yr old frame (if that's even true), but you get it "right now" and it is a collectible, whether you need to restore it or not (I'm sure Richard would sell the decals and J Bell who paints sachs would probably repaint it)

I have seen his stuff, its very clean. Very conservative. Nothing outrageous other than the attention to detail. never flawed, always consistent. You will have a keepsake to pass on to your kids.

I bought that Richard Sachs for sale back in 2005. I got it for less than asked by seller asked. A great Sachs. Excellent condition. I have chaged the wheels to clinchers. New saddle. Fresh grease. A complete cleaning. Ask for photos

I agree that a complete Richard Sachs in good to excellent condition should sell for over $3000.
In face i have an 80's Richard sachs for sale $3500 OBO. ask for data.
