Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

just bought an (old) used fuji that needs some work done on it and watnted to know:
1) should i get: traditional toe clips (pedal + normal shoe) or clip ins (special pedal and shoe) or is it personal preference?
2) how do i tell how straight the chainline is? do i just look from the rear up straight down to the cog on the crank and line them up?
thanks!!

I'll answer before people tell you to search the forums (which you should probably do anyways! ;) )

1) Use what you are most comfortable with. Personally, I use toe clips and straps so that I can wear ordinary civilian shoes. Clipless ( = "clip ins") are more efficient as you can more easily apply force around the whole circle.
2) That is how I checked mine. Dig around on www.sheldonbrown.com. I am pretty sure that he has a more precise method for measuring it.
