Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - BMX Pegs on Road/Track Bike

I'm toying with the notion of putting some pegs on my beater fixie, mostly for kicks. I'm sure this has been done before, but I've surprisingly never seen it.

I know relatively nothing about BMX bikes, even though I used to own one as a small kid. How do the pegs work? Are they threaded, or do they get wedged between the frame and the nuts? Are BMX hubs/axels threaded the same way as road axels? Are they the same diameter?

Can anyone suggest a way in which I could accomplish this (short of lacing a BMX hub to a road rim)?

Should work without issue if you have bolt on wheels(no QR's.) The pegs I've had are bolted on with the wheel nut and don't require a special hub.

The are not threaded. They haven't been threaded since 1985 :D

They bolt on in place of a washer. The common hole sizes are made to fit 3/8" and 14mm axles. They look like this:

You will need a socket wrench + a 6" extender to tighten/loosen the bolt.

buy 80's thread on, 26tpi. don't do grinds, and only ride your kid brother or a pixie on back. remember that old sticker no fat chicks? that was so lame!!!!!!!

Why? They make them for standard axles. If you are the only one on the bike then no. If you are giving your buddies a ride then you will bend your axles. I've thought about using them for times when you want to coast like the scorchers.

As has been said, they're definitely not threaded. I just took them off of my old BMX bike, and they were bolted on there with some BEEFY nuts. (Haha, I said beefy nuts...)

Anyway, the nuts that held them on were huge, and the axle was definitely quite thick...

that's why. i figured that's what he'd want them for, unless he was thinking of doing grinds.

I wanna weld some pegs/short rod on my fork blades so that I can rest my feet there on long down hills. And to freak people out.


Actually I saw a friends' bike the other day, and he had a bolt-on plate which attached at the rear axl;et, and extended along side the chainstay, like a little step. It would serve the same purpose as a peg but without the bending axles and jabbyness.

They used to have bolt on pegs and stands during the old school flatland days. My old pastel blue GT (yes, with the white plastic wheels) had them.

By the way...you will kill your wheel, tires, and especially knees trying to start and stop with the weight of an extra person on the front or rear.

Uh, they still make thread-on pegs. You guys need to get out more.
There's the narrow cheap ones which thread 26tpi on one side and 24tpi on the other, depending on whether you have a freewheel or coaster brake, and there's big stocky ones that AFAIK just come in threading for freewheel axles.
But yeah your axles aren't meant to carry the weight of a young adult on pegs, but that's been said a million times already.

i read this this morning and then during lunch today i actually saw a guy on a beater road bike with pegs on the front

y'all obviously don't have cargo fixies...my heavy setup has some big ol' beefy axles (phil kiss-off's), nice heavy frame, sun rhino rims (yeah, 26"), and a jandd expedition rack. Last night I gave my partner (about 120#) a ride from north berkeley to east oakland (12 miles) and when I got here, a roomie (180#) needed a ride to the bart station...no problem!...no pegs, though...I just sit them on the rack.

Now all I can think about is this quote:

"It's a Sledgehammer"
"Dang! Shocks... pegs... lucky!"

I don't get it, when I was running 9mm axles I used to give rides to my friends all the time, and my axles never bent. (this was on my kickass Hutch Trickstar) I'd be more worried about the wheel folding if your spoke tension wasn't perfect.

I use to have pegs on my MTB, u'll get to the point where you forget you even have them.
