Commuting - anyone here commute along the Santa Ana River Trail in SoCal?

My company just moved to Anaheim and I am seriously thinking about commuting to work from Huntington Beach at least a few times a week. I was never interested in commuting until I found out that 95% of my ride would be along a river trail w/o having to deal with cars. oh, and the $80 it takes to fill up and the pants that are a bit too snug now help with the idea of biking to work as well.

I live in Anaheim and work in Irvine so I don't commute on SART (because I go SE and the trail goes SW) but I have ridden on it. It is multi-use, so you have to deal with pedestrians on it. That isn't a problem because it is wide enough for it. Not having to stop at lights is very helpful. You might have to deal with detours sometimes because they are working on a ground water reclaimation project in the river, lots of construction equipment. I would recommend it. Where in Anaheim is your office located?

I commute on it 2X a week. I live in Costa Mesa and work in Brea - 20 mi each way. I'm usually on the trail by 5:30. It's a nice, traffic free trip for 15 of my 20 miles. It's very flat. The only bad thing is the headwind on the way home.

I work on Katella between The Pond and the Staduim. Right across the street from Hooters in the John Handcock building. I actually live in Costa Mesa, just moved from Huntington Beach. This weekend I am going to try to make the ride and see how it is. I had a guy at work be carefull going thru santa ana. I just wish my new office has a locker room w/ shower.


and I did a small ride after work today and notice the headwind heading towards the beach, but it should be fun.

I don't usually commute on the trail but I've ridden it from end to end several times. One of the nicest trails I've used.

Try out the route to work on a weekend...and yes, you'll most likely be bucking a headwind in the late afternoon
