So this dude that used to work with me but moved on to a better job at a better place (lucky fool!) started commuting to work by bike.
To my job it would've been 32 miles round trip for him but now it's only 18 miles round trip. So I've been helping him deck out his commuting gear, he seems to be having a good time. The new place has indoor parking and showers.

So despite all the people who make fun of me at work, at least I converted one, even if he had to convert after switching jobs. I'm on the verge of converting this other guy I know from high school who is at least 150 lbs over weight and has like, a 20 block (approx 1 mile) commute in midtown.

...the latexed pied piper of the velocommuting world...

The image this statement conjurs in my mind is quite disturbing.....

I was about to commend Cyclaholic for his turn of phrase -- it certainly is colorful and downright literary. But DogBoy has a point that if you think about the phrase for too long it does conjure up some less benign images.

Good stuff! The more the merrier, wherever they work.

I had one convert start up earlier this week, and am getting close with another one... :)

oh damn... i thought he said spandexed... latexed.. that's messed up. :p
Anyway I went to the lbs with him today and got him gloves and a rear light. He said something which I found pretty vindicating. He said, "you know, for the first time, my commute is actually fun, even if its hard work, it's still fun, all this time I thought you were just crazy."

NO NO NO!!!! i didn't mean it like that... y'all are sick little puppies, it's all in your dirty minds :p

Slvoid, I hope you pointed out that commuting because it's fun or because we're just crazy are not mutually exclusive states of mind :D

I've heard, and said that one before. It's amazing what cycling can do for your mental and physical health. I just ignore the fools who seem to think that a car makes them better than me...5 years ago I was 300lbs. even, today at 3:30pm I was 192lbs. at 6'4"...I owe that to cycling.
