I'm looking for an entry level hybrid for my wife to start getting back into biking. I'm not wanting to spend a lot of money, but I want something decent. I've had a lot of success with Trek bikes over the years, and I'm looking at their 7000 hybrid. Does anyone have info on this bike? Is it worth the $250 or so I could get it for at the LBS? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Good bike, for the price. See if the LBS can exchange the suspension seat post, and saddle for a no suspension seat post, and a saddle with less foam. They call it jell, but it is just foam, and it stinks on longer rides.

I took a friend to my LBS to get a 7000 but it turned out they don't carry the 7000 and sold her a 7100 for just $20 more than the 7000. Their reasoning was this: They offer free basic adjustments for as long as you own the bike but the quality of the 7000 components is more like a bike you'd buy at Walmart than at a good lbs.

If my friend didn't want the 7100 they were willing to order the 7000 for her but she decided she'd rather be riding the thing than bringing it in for constant adjustments.

Who knows where the truth really lies . . .
