How do I choose what spindle size to get? How is it determined from the crankset?

What cranks do you have? It depends on your crankset. For track it goes a little something like this (cue music):
Sugino 75: 109 matching symmetrical BB. Acceptable variations: 107BB, 110BB shimano.
Campy: 111mm BB
Miche: 103mmBB

If you're running a road double then you might want a 110-115BB depending. The Sugino RD's run a 103BB.

more bb questions, while not "stupid" at all, I have replied to many in the past and more recently. John Dacey rules ... he helped me out big time about a year ago with my Suntour Superbe track cranks that I trouble with. Kinda opened my eyes to the tech. of getting BB spindle lengths right, now it's breeze, If manged to slapped together a slew of fixies for my buddies and have consistently nailed the chainline with random sugino dbls. and various Shimano mtb BB's depending on the crank.
