I dropped by my lbs with my friend to get him some stuff and road over the brooklyn bridge back home. There were about 4-5 guys around me on the bridge going up too. 2 of us had lights, and there are tourists right, fine, and there's this STUPID ASSED running group who have like 100 runners running up the bridge, well guess what, now they're all over the place, the tourists are all over the bike lane, they're all over the bike lane.
Halfway through I was just like, "f**k it" and went into mid-town mode, weaving between tourists, pedestrians, and runners. I think that was the most exciting I've done in a while, I must've elbowed about 10-15 people by the time I got across the main span.
Near the end, I screamed, get the hell out of the lane! to this couple who were making about about 2 seconds before and decided to hold hands and really really slowly stroll across the bike path. This really hot, and I mean smoking hot, jogger, who's part of the running group, looks back and gives me this dirty look. I said, "oh no not you, that couple back there in my way." She giggled and I just kept going.

I am really suprised you didn't hit the couple making out because you was staring at the joggers ass. LOL

Oh and how is your wounds healing up?

How else are you ever going to replicate the feeling of leading a TdF stage up a wicked Alpine pass with crazy agressive fans on all sides?!? ;)

This reminds me of the intersection of W45th and 8th Ave. I never, and I never have a chance to make the light there on the way home because of car traffic, so I always start cold stopped before crossing. Peds at the other side of the intersection don't seem to notice the bicycle which has quickly accelerated to road speed. Pretty much ever day I find myself screaming "GET THE HELL OUT THE WAY PEOPLE!". I admit enjoying it sometimes. :D That intersection is probably the main reason I want an AirZounds...

Oh and void, man, disappointed again. You seem to have this way of seeing attractive, athletic young ladies but never doing anything manly about it. ;)

I'm sure the hot jogger was really turned on by your shouting, elbowing, and general a** holiness. :)

I'm healed up pretty good, good enough to elbow tourists anyway. I stand by my claim that you tourists haven't experienced the real new york if you haven't been mugged or elbowed as you were blocking the bike lane.

Lol yeah i'm pretty sure she was real turned on by this screaming lunatic pushing people aside on his bike. ;)

you should've turned around, biked up next to her, and been like "hey... where y'all goin?" or SOMETHING! I'm disappointed in you.

Oh well... NYC is fulla hotties.... and not-so-hotties.

Slvoid -- now is that any way for "the latexed pied piper of the velocommuting world" to behave? Forget the potential rudeness to tourists (they're expendable Mother Nature always sends more) but skipping the opportunity to fraternize with a hot jogger!?!? You have let so many of us down who look to you and other single riders for our vicarious thrills. Just so you know, I've shortened the pedestal I used to have you on by two inches because of this whole sordid tale of wasted potential.

Brilliant, insightful posts like this are what keeps me coming back to BF. :D

I've got 8,122 reasons it's bad. I also happen to have 10,482 reasons I'm glad that I DO live here - and this story counts in the "Glad I Do" category. for every bad thing about a NYC, theres about 1.3 good things in my experience. Oh, and it's generally considered bad form to speak ill of another's town. I realize it's done often, but it's really not very nice.

Yeah dude, I want to see more reckless bicycle action (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=132283&page=1)! Entertain us! And don't forget the hot jogger close-ups!

Yeah, va_cyclist, unless you've lived in NYC (visiting for 2 days doesn't count as living - as Marylandnewbie said, tourists don't count as people!) I don't think you should be complaining. I miss it every so often, but until the local trail nazis close down the 1127 hectares of tight singletrack (http://content2.calgary.ca/CCA/City+Hall/Business+Units/Parks/Parks+and+Locations/Natural+Environment+Parks/Locations/Natural+Areas+in+NW+Calgary/Nose+Hill+Park.htm) that I live less than 3 minutes away from, I won't be going back.

PS - Hot jogger close-ups can be an excellent way to meet said hot joggers. Say you're making an independent film about bikes or bike messengers or something. They can't help but become interested.

I have a photo of slvoid's adventure today. Seems some of the joggers didn't care for his antics.

"Mid-town mode". That just sounds so damn cool to me.

Dosage of 'tude increases with the number of wheels on one's conveyance.

So treating peds like motorists treat cyclists eh?

Boss yells at worker, worker then goes home and snaps at his wife. The wife then slaps the oldest boy and sends him to his room. On the way to his room the son pushes his little sister. She storms outside kicking the dog on the way. With a yelp the dog jumps and then proceeds to bite the cat. Cat runs off and waits outside of the mouse hole.

Chit runs downhill.

Actually there was a guy on a bike with his left hand on the handle bar and his right hand holding this camcorder at like knee level filming the runners, I didn't hit him but I went by him pretty close, he probably has a video out there.

Well, I didn't plan to turn this into an NYC pro-con debate, and I wasn't complaining (I think the OP was). You guys like NYC, you can have it. My point was only that these kinds of events don't happen where I live (due to lower population density), and I'm happy with that. No need to get defensive about where you choose to live.
