I'm sort of new to this forum and to tandem cycling. I noticed this on the road bike and MTB forum, and I haven't seen it here.

I would love to see pics of your tandem, as I don't really know what's out there. POST them! Please!

My wife and I recently acquired a 1960's Columbia Twosome. We have had a blast riding our rusted piece of metal. It doesn't do well on hills though. I'll post some pics of it as soon as I take some.

Here are a few pictures of our 1991 Burley Duet. The captains bars are bullhorns and the stoker has drops because that is what each of us prefers. That's Mount Rainier in the first picture.

Wow, some good looking tandems!

I don't have any "good" photos yet, but here are just a couple I have thus far as I'm a new tandem captain as of the past couple months.

Well we already want to upgrade for longer rides. But the Fuji is a nice entry level around the neighborhood bike. It's a 21" captain, and a bit small for me, but fits my wife great. We would like nice pure road Tandem, maybe a Cannondale next year in a better fitting size.

Mainly used off road, but as its a Dale MT2000 set up with Hope Mono M4 brakes, 200mm discs, Hope Big un Hubs on Mavic Downhill rims and Rockshox Boxers that have been set up for the Tandem, I suppose that is where it should be. Latest addition is a Cane Creek Thudbuster, but not had time to abuse it yet

I should take a more current photo, but here's an older shot of ours.

[edit] I've just uploaded a photo taken today, so this image is now current. Not much in the way of changes, just a few minor things, and the seats adjusted.

It's titanium, with S&S couplers, titanium bars, SRAM X9, Shimano 203mm discs with Avid brakes. Nothing special in the US, but pretty rare for Australia.

No, just the only one so far who's tandem was photographed while the cranks were out of phase.... We're switch hitters; depends on the terrain, purpose of the ride, how we feel, etc...

Cheg: ariZona tandem is a custom c/f built by Bob Davis in Peoria, AZ. We've been pedalin' OOP since 1977.
We are also probably one of the few tandemistas who still use toeclips . . . whatever floats your boat!
OOPers are a bit in the minority in the tandemworld, but have persuaded other duos to at least try it, with the majority being in favor.
Dubbelop (two-up) . . . is dit Marten van the Nederlandse Tandem Club?

I've been trying to get a look at a used tandem 3 hours away but the seller has always been out of town when I can make the drive. I guess he took pity on me because he turned me on to a guy about half that distance away who used to sell Burleys (and Santanas) out of his equipment rental shop and still had a few floating about. I bought the 24/21, but there's still a 22/20 (not to mention a Rock and Roll) available, both in the box like this one was. The bike is a good match for me since I just upgraded my vintage road bike to 9sp, but kept the friction levers. Plus I've been needing a blue bike. :)

Here's our 05 Trek T2000. With a list of how it varies from stock and why.

http://www.sheepcamp.com/images/IMG_3370.JPG

Rear Brakes: I switched to XT V-Brakes (side pull) to get away from the kludge of a final cable stay on the stokers seat post.

Front Brake Booster: It's surprising how much that beefy-looking fork yielded to the front cantilevers.

Quickstop Salomon Brake Pads: One of my first attempts to get better braking without vibration or noise.

Freddy Fenders: Yes, it rains in AZ.

Trek Interchange rack and trunk: I got my wife caught in a hailstorm one time (hey, that hurts!) and vowed never to get her caught unprepared for the weather again.

Brooks Saddles: She loves hers, I'm not as convinced since I would rather a lower handlebar.

Michelin Carbon Tires: The original Bontrager Hard-Cases bothered me because the tread separated from the carcass. The Michelins are nice, but wearing quick. I'll be trying other tires.

Computers: Cat Eye MSC3DXs on her bars and mine to display my HR. Garmin Forerunner 301 for her heartrate and entertainment.

I'm confused. Why can't you just put on a different stem? (I assume we're talking about your bar here, and not hers.)

The Brooks saddle works correctly with a nose-high attitude. This causes a problem when getting low (rotating forward on the saddle). Indeed I could replace the stem or flip the captains stem that is on the bike, but being that low conflicts with the nose-high attitude of my brooks.

Conventional Brooks wisdom is that they work best for people who ride with their handlebars at least as high as their seat. I suspect that the higher the bars, the more comfortable a Brooks. Meaning level with the seat is the recommended lower limit for the bars, but not optimum for saddle comfort.

News to me. My Brooks is at least 1.5" higher than the tops of my bar, and has been for years. Give it a try.

Edited to use attachment feature...

#1 - Horrible quality photo of my wife and I with our first tandem getting ready to ride in the local Christmas Parade with the local bike club in December 1994.

#2 - Another couple in the club with their Burley Rock 'n Roll tandem. Hard to tell from the picture but that yellow blob on the capatain's right bar is a bubble machine that was a bigger attention getter than two tandems with riders dressed stupidly on them.

#3 - Here is how we transported the Santana around for the 18 months we owned it. Sold the bike for health reasons via usenet to someone in Minnesota.

#4 - Always regretted selling the Santana. We had lost touch with the other couple, but ran into them about 4 years ago and when we asked if they still had the Burley, they said yes. When asked if they were still riding it, they said no. We offered them some money for it, but they declined saying they were going to get back on it. Jump cut to last Friday, I got an email asking if I was still interested in the tandem, I said yes.

We rode it for 8 miles last weekend and put it up for now. The tires in the 1994 picture and the ones in the 2005 picture are the same ones.

We have the same bike, same color, same year, same size. Few componet changes since then, and ours doesn't look quite so good ater 13 years of riding.
