I just moved to NYC, and I want to get involved in racing at the track in Flushing. I've wanted a fixie for a while, but now I can justify it--my geared ride simply won't work. I'll probably get a set of bullhorns hooked to a brake, that I can swap for track drops when I race, with a flip-flop for a street/track gear.
My questions:
--What is the best track frame under $400?
--What is the best complete bike for under $750?
--I like about 79 gear inches for street. What is a good number for track?
--What's up with 650C? Are they only legal in certain events or something? Why do people use them (or not use them)? I'm thinking that it'd be good for street use, more nimble, better acceleration.
--Is there much difference between a quality track hub and a quality road hub? Or a quality MTN hub for that matter? The way I figure it, if it is smooth and 100mm, its good. Am I missing something?
Thanks!!
