Ok, I am not real vain so I do not mind wearing my helmet. However, even on short trips my specialized helmet imprints the exact patern of the inside of my helmet in my hair. Now though I do not mind the helmet in public thing the helmet hair at the office just does not fly, I look like a wannabe punk rocker. Soaking my head and letting it dry on it's own, (only thing that seems to reshape the hair) it less than practical. I was taking a turn on the two mile trip home, scraped a pedal and almost bought it at good speed. I want to wear my helmet but I need a cure for the helmet hair, any ideas out there? I wear a small specialized that fits perfectly, great for singletrack, bad for hair.

Thats the problem, my hair is short, when I say exact pattern, I mean EXACT. If you know helmets you could ID the one I wear by looking at my head after a ride.
And for other reasons I cannot let my hair grow out.
Cut your hair REALLY short. :) I go with a #1 clipper.
I begin to get the helmet imprint as the hair grows out. I just ruffle it with my hands.

I cut my hair myself with a clippers. 1/4inch on the top, 1/8inch on sides/back. I still get some helmet hair though. It won't go away if I just run my hands through it. I have to actually rinse it, or at least just get it wet, first.
Work up a really good sweat. Then when you take your helmet off, you can just slick back your soaking wet hair. Looks really cool! ;)

Long enough for a pony tail works. So does fixing it in the mens room.

Yeah right here in my cubicle, it's 3/4 horse job that can do double duty to drive an impact hammer. Which is very useful when the network goes down. :)
Obviously I am not the only one with this problem, I guess I am going back to the short short cut. When I cut my hair I go to the skin on the sides with a small flat top 1/8 to 1/4 on top. Oh well, there goes looking like something other than an escaped prisoner.

How you doin?
;)
Nice helmet hair indeed!
(note: not trying to be a pig. just kidding. happily married. etc.) :)
The "cure" to most problems is to eliminate the cause(s).
Cure 1 -- eliminate the helmet.
If cure 1 is deemed undesirable, try cure 2 -- eliminate the hair and shave your head.
Everything else is just treating adverse symptoms.
I'm about one clipper size short of a buzz-cut. I wear a doo-rag or skull cap under the helmet.
I look like a wannabe punk rocker.
I say if you can't beat 'em, join 'em.
I have the same exact problem (with a Specialized helmet, no less). I put a little pomade in my hair before riding and it makes it easier to style back once I'm at work.

I too shave my head with a #1; and I too get the perfect mold of helmet hair. The diffrence is that I have a Bell helmet, so at least my doo is in style.
Yeah, i've found no solution to beating the problem. Try to embrace it; makes for good conversation.

Are you a Dapper Dan man?
Ha! Hardly.
I think I'm probably more the punk rocker that PoorBehavior is trying to avoid looking like. :D

You lot must be talking about a helmet imprint on the top of your head, right?
No wonder I don't have this problem... :D

When I get to work, I clean up in the bathroom. To cure a serious case of helmet hair I rinse my entire head in the sink while I am stripped down (one person bathroom) and dry it off with paper towells. It is not ideal, but it works for me. If I need it, I keep some hair spray in my desk.

Have you been using my hair treatment?

Stop being so freakin' vain!
;-)
Who the hell cares what you look like?
As long as a self-satisfied smile is plastered on your mug, nothing else matters.

Let me elaborate on that....
Cyclists by their very definition are considered geeks by the public at large...
We're sweaty, dress funny, and eat weird gels and carbo bars.
I consider the helmethead hairstyle just another notch in my non-conformist belt.
And I wear that belt PROUDLY!

I have fairly long hair for a guy and ride into work with a helmet on every day. I sweat a lot so my hair is usually wet when I get there and if it's humid out (like it is all summer) my hair curls like crazy and does all sorts of wacky things as it dries. I look at it as treating people to a new me every day. My hair never looks the same. It's always fun to go into the bathroom midmorning and see what new thing my hair is up to. If I ever had a hairstyle that needed to be combed to look decent, I'd probably just shave it off instead. I used a #1 for a few years and it was fantastic. If my head wasn't so odd-shaped I'd probably still do it.

I want to wear my helmet but I need a cure for the helmet hair, any ideas out there? --- I don't have a cure, but I use a preventative. After the morning shower I apply Nioxin Liquid Foam per directions.
When I take off my helmet, the hair springs back to its pre-helmet shape. I picked the Nioxin product because it has the least "fragrance" odor.
Bend over and put your whole head under a sink faucet, get your head soaked. That does it for me!

I carry a little thing of gel or mousse in my bag and spruce up in the bathroom before I walk into the office.

Shave everything but a 8-inch circle of hair on the backside until you can ponytail it, or just shave it all.
I'm in the process of growing just the 8-inch circle of hair at this point, once its long enough to braid, I'll let it grow and hide it under the jersey.
