Cannondale MT800 Value

Hi, I was hoping some of you experienced tandem owners out there could help me determine if a MT800 I'm considering is a good value. It would be my first tandem. It is a '99, is in excellent condition, hardly a scratch, and seems to be basically factory. It has mainly Deore XT components with Avid brakes, and new road tires. It is in great tune. The owners were asking around $750 for it. Does that sound like a good price? I want to be sure I don't pay too much, because I may want to sell it again if we decide we would rather have a road Tandem. We're thinking we might like to have the option to ride some mellow trails around our home, but will have to see how much we actually use it for that! So, I want to be relatively sure I can resell it for about what I paid if I have too. Any input would be greatly appreciated, thanks!! :D

Yes, per your description of it's condition $750 would be a very good price.

That's a fantastic deal! You'll be getting a frame that you may not ever outgrow. The Cannondale won't "noodle" under hard pedalling loads. It's light and responsive, if a bit harsh on the stoker. Get a susp. seatpost if it doesn't have one. And enjoy!
Retail on the frame alone is about that much, FYI.

We bought a 2003 MT800 from Tandems East last summer. We like it very much and are pleased with it, especially since we got ride of the factory issue saddles and installed Brooks B67 and B67S saddles. My wife/stoker has found the B67S to be even better than her Terry on her half bike. It did take me a while to tweak the adjustments.

For that price, I would grab the bike; it is a very good starter tandem and will give you years of satisfaction.

This spring I stumbled upon a like new 2003 mt800 for a grand US and snapped it up. The stoker (aka wife) and I have been very pleased with the quality. It is very rigid. After riding this cycle for a while you will notice the flex when riding cheaper frames. This link should allow you to compare features
