So I want to ride to my daughter's birthday party tomorrow. Anyone have a good route from Manhattan to Cortland (very near Croton Point Park)?

Is route 9 a similar road to 9W on the other side of the river? If it is I can take that the whole way more or less. If 9 sucks should I look into the trailways... seems like they are not all that either.

All the cue sheets I've seen are out of control complex with about 100 turns... not a fun ride.

Also comment on hills. I'll be riding a 77" gear. I've been to Nyack several times via River Road... are the hills worse than that?

thanks very much for your input.

I've ridden Route 9 maybe about a mile into Yonkers and it's really just like a city street. I mean, it's Broadway...and it doesn't really change that much when you leave the Bronx. Maybe further out it gets more highwayish like 9W but I don't really know.

I think there's a part of 9 that becomes a highway when it merges with 9A. You can try to take the South county trailway (http://www.westchestergov.com/parks/pdfs/Maps/Trailways/SCTrail.pdf) in Yonkers, and then pick up the North Cty trailway (http://www.westchestergov.com/parks/pdfs/Maps/Trailways/Nctrailmap.pdf) in Elmsford to Yorktown Heights and then shoot west somehow.
