I just finished converting an old late 70s early 80s road bike. It was 24-25 pounds and I got it down to 19-20 pounds. I think that's pretty good, and I didn't have to spend any big bucks, most of my money went into building the wheel. I'm not a weight weenie but I was wondering how much do other people's conversions weigh. Do they usualy come out to more or less than 20 pounds?

Mine (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?p=1407143&highlight=hungarian#post1407143) is pretty light, under 8,5 kilos (just over 18 pounds) without brakes. Has reasonably light frame and very light wheels.

that's crazy, my frame and fork is all steel and the wheels aren't too lite (not steel). i still have a steel chainring on it i need to replace.

My lightest is well under 18 pounds. The front wheel is a custom tubular build that weighs in at 474 grams!!! I would say that mine average around twenty pounds, including a front brake, lights, and saddle bag stuff.

With all new ticked out parts I think an eight pound fixie is possible. One day I hope to find out. :D

Not with standard mass-produced parts, I don't think.

Though, if the sub-500g wheel had a matching rear, (say, 600g)... Some scott cr1 frames weigh 8xxg, so frame+fork+headset+wheels could be well under 2500g!!! Add cranks, chain, cog and tires and you're still barely above 3000. Add carbon handlebar and stem, eggbeater triple ti, and the crazy one-piece custom made ~200g carbon saddle and seatpost...
