Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Crumpler Bags

Anyone here use a crumpler bag? I say a few on ebay and am considering buying one, a complete seed,
Its about the same size as A Timbuk2 large classic bag. For anyone that rides one, how are they? durable, waterproof comfortable etc.

I have a Crumpler Wonder Weenie I picked up in London two years ago when I worked there. I used it mainly for the commute every day: change of clothes/shoes. It never leaked, but then again the London rain, while constant, was never very hard.

I have always thought very highly of Crumpler until today, which is why I am responding. I was riding back out to a suburb of Philly from downtown and got caught out in a horrendous downpour. When I got home I found my Crumpler had leaked all the way through - mostly around the back region where it presses against my back. Bummer. It doesn't have a seperate PVC liner inside like my Chrome bag. I will probably rely more heavily on my Chrome bag going forward, but I don't plan to eliminate the Crumpler bag from my arsenal entirely. I still think it is a good bag. Perhaps the larger sizes are designed to by more waterproof/courier friendly.

I used a seedy three for about a year, and was mostly pleased with it. Very comfortable, and roomier than you might expect. It made it through a number of downpours without anything inside getting wet. It seems pretty well built.

I did have a few issues with it, though. First, there are very few pockets...only three thin internal ones. Second, it's not technically waterproof. While I had no problems in rain, when my back got really sweaty it would seep through the bag and whatever was resting against my back would get damp. However, I should note that I sweat easily, and a lot, so that may not be an issue for you. Finally, after seeing the split-strap design on other bags (Chrome, Baileyworks), I started to get annoyed with the single-strap, over-the-head design. I don't know if any of these are issues with the complete seed.

Anyway, since I've started using my bike as my primary means of transportation, I've found myself wanting to carry more stuff than when I originally bought the bag. I've since picked up a Baileyworks SuperPro that I'm quite happy with.

my main issue with crumpler bags is just their shape and materials.. I find them way to stiff, and a lot of them are really weirdly shaped. I mean, you might try one on and love it, but I didn't personally. They do seem to be constructed fairly well though.

I actually have one of their camera/laptop backpacks, and I like it a lot for off-bike use. I can fit my laptop and camera gear in there, along with a snack or an extra layer or a book in the main compartment.

But the shoulder bags have never really impressed me that much.

I've been using a Crumpler for about 10 years and like it, although I don't have much to compare it to. When they were a smaller company, you used to be able to get them made from vinyl which made them super waterproof like a Ortleib. I got mine with the flap panel made from some nice Guatamalan fabric I scrounged from one of those type stores.

You can also get them fully custom made too, so if you want something different, just give them a call or if that seems beyond your technology, PM or e-mail me. They're a small company, very approachable, and just around the corner from me - but I tent to agree the designs have become more 'lifestyle' and no doubt there are more 'hardcore' bags out there probably. It would be cool to scam some old PVC truck tarp and hand it to them and say 'Make a Seedy 3 out of this'....like a Freitag without the stupid price.

ive got the crumpler fux deluxe and its great. ive never used anything else so its i wouldnt really know the difference. i wouldnt mind a 2 peice strap tho. i bought it because they have great camera bag inserts. i carry around about 3 grand in camera gear in it in the rain and its all good. ive only had it for like 6 months but so far its great. also deceptively spacious, i can fit way more in that i usually expect to.

i boughty a crumpler bees knees a couple years ago and so far it has been super waterproof, it's showing no signs of wear, and it's pretty darn comfortable!

i have the seedy three for about a year i had it through the winter it was all good. i think im going to get something else ive just out grown it time for a change.

I use one for work and it's comfy, durable but only water-resistant. Like the guy said above, my sweat soaks through but rain seems to stay out.

I have a Seedy 3,,,,an ok bag.But just another universal Vietnam made bag with a familiar name..Heck the no-name $19.95 storebrands come off the same sweat shop sewing machines.I got mine off Ebay for $45.
in retrospec I would have gotten a crome or even a Jandd,or a $19.95 store brand--my 2centsJJ
