Talk about "OLD SCHOOL" This is just nifty.

Actually. I'm wondering. Has suspension been used in BMX racing? I can only imagin the weight it adds. But even a little travle on the HARD landing would be welcome. If it were really stiff, so that pedeling wouldn't move it, but it could still soak up a casing.......

Here's a nice article on BMX suspension.

Holy heavyweight, Batman! That thing probably weighs about 4 metric tons. There's a reason suspension never caught on in BMX. :D

Cool little bit of obscure history, though.

I had one of those once...

Snazzy, they're metric tonnes over here. I know, because I have to organize the shipment of several thoussand MT of aluminium each week. Air conditioners and Bugatti motor cars - same metal. Go figure.

Does that thing even have a pivot near the BB, or are the shocks just for extra weight?

it pivots at the BB.

That is too cool. With real "heavy duty" rims. I remember those. We didn't care about wieght, just that they weren't supposed to bend. They did.

If I recall correctly, it took more weight than most kids could muster, in order to move the shocks through their inch of travel. That, and the fact that the front and rear suspension travelled in different arcs.

I had a single pivot frame running a motorcycle shock as a toptube in ?? 1978-9.
Not a dimestore plastic gastank thing. Evil.

Mine was black with a green tank, and I think it had green fenders too. I can remember trying to jump it, and it just dropped like a cartoon anvil.
