BMX - Falling bars

Every time I land doing a bunny hop or hiting a ramp my bars fall fowards realy far. Its bad enough that when I land I get thrown over the bars because there so far fowards. Anyone got any ideas on how to keep them where I want them?

At this point the knurling on your bars is most likely destroyed, and if you've got an aluminum stem with CrMo bars that's probably wrecked as well, so all you're going to do by tightening the bolts is strip them out too. Once your bars start slipping there's no way to get them to stop, the trick is to set it up RIGHT the first time so this doesn't become an issue. Go buy an Odyssey CFN and a new set of bars and THE MOST IMPORTANT THING: a tube of Park Polylube grease. Grease all the bolts, DO NOT grease the bars. Tighten properly...4-bolt stems should always be cross-tightened in an X pattern: upper right, lower left, upper left, lower right, rinse, lather, repeat.

Yes, but chances are you wouldn't be able to tell the difference between Polylube and Easy Cheez, either.

Polylube is designed for bicycle purposed like bearings. Easy Cheez is regular old Yellow Grease.

what kind of bike do you have and are the bars and stem stock?? and is it a threaded headset because if so the oddysey stem wont work unless you get a threadless headset. otherwise you will need a shafted stem sold on dans for 12 bucks

I have a threaded headset and its stock. When I order the stem I plan on getting a threadless headset also.

I'll probably just get a cheaper headset like a cane creek tank2 headset until I get enough money to get a better one.

dude. if your problem is your bars are slipping I don't think the solution is to buy a complete new bike or frame/forks/stem/headset.

first try to get the stem you have to work. take the four bolts out, clean the bars/stem. put grease on JUST THE BOLTS and put it back together. tighten in a square pattern as mentioned above.

I tried that and it didnt work. The inside of the stem is stripped out.

what part is stripped, where the bolts go or the clamp part that holds the bars?

The clamp that hold it on is stripped.The competion 1" shafted stem is what I have and it stripped within the first day i had it.

Not necessarily. There are 1" threadless headsets available (such as those made by Chris King), but you *will* need a new fork and stem. And chances are a 1" threadless headset is going to cost twice what your frame is worth, especially if it's a King.
