Recreational Cyclocross and Gravelbiking - disc brakes on a jake the snake?
Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. I have an 05 Jake the Snake and want to put disc brakes on it. Are they compatible for the bike as is or do I need to make changes to it?
Do you have tabs on the fork and the frame? From the pictures on the Kona site, it looks like you don't.
If you want to run a front disc brake, you could get a Kona Project 2 disc fork, swap the front hub or just replace the entire wheel, and get something like an Avid BB7 (rotor, caliper, pads, hardware).
For the rear, you can get some adapters to mount the caliper setup but I don't know anything about those. And again, you'll have to swap the wheel or get a new hub and get the rear disc brake.
So basically, not a quick and simple or really cheap task.
probably not - as Never wrote "does it have disc tabs?" - you used to be able to buy an arm that mounts on the drop out and cantilever boss. Apart from that change the forks and hubs.
Kona Major Jake is a CX DB ready frame

I guess it won't be too simple. Ah well, my current brakes are lighter, I guess.
