For 21 years I was an avid long distance runner (middle of the packer) until my rt. knee failed me by letting Uncle arthritis move in and put a stop to my running days. People use to think my husband and I were crazy since we'd plan vacations around running events in different states. We looked at it as being able to participate in an activity we loved, visit a new state and make new running friends along the way. Now I'm hoping that cycling will do the same for us.

So with that said, let me just let you know that I am fairly new to cycling. I mainly ride/spin beside my husband when he runs around our area on the weekends. We have been riding more on Sat. or Sun., usually to go to breakfast, which is 38 miles round trip. Also, since I'm new to cycling, I'm still not good on the timing of when to shift gears... I hope this will come with practice. I would really appreciate any suggestions or pointers from you on cycling and any rides throughout the U.S. that you think would be a great experience for this beginner rider.

Also, I'm thinking of buying a new bike. I just saw a North Face Talus with 16" frame at Dick's Sporting Goods for $219. Don't know anything about brands or bikes in general and since I'm not yet an avid cyclist, this sounded good to me. What do you think?
