Hello! Just thought I would take a moment to introduce myself. I'm a 31 yo female from Missouri who just recently (with the urging and help of my husband) began riding again after about 15 years of never even seeing a bike, let alone being on one! We bought a pair of Trek 820's and are just loving them. We decided to make the purchase mainly for health reasons, to lose a bit of weight, and to have something benefical to our health that we can do together.
Looking forward to getting to know everyone and sharing in this community.

Welcome to the forums. Those are good bikes. A very good place to start. If you are like me, you will wonder why you waited so long to discover that a bike is a lot more fun in adulthood than it was as a child.

Thanks everyone for the replies!

Magoo~ I'm always proud of you! =)

Diamond~ I have already found that I'm addicted! It only took 5 days and I'm bummed out that with my work schedule this week I won't get to ride until probably Friday.

CSCman~ have fun on the Katy Trail. That will be our goal before winter hits, to ride it as well.

Bransom~ We're just south of St. Louis. Know any good beginner trails around the southern portion of the area?

Grant's Trail is an easy paved trail in South County.

Welcome to the forum. I'm not from Missouri but I also plan on riding the Katy before too long. As far as other trails go, I often use www.traillink.com to find trails around the country.

Phantoj, I'm assuming that's near Grant's Farm?

SPOLwife,

Try here: www.trailnet.org/oldsite/trails.html

Also, here's one specifically on Grant's Trail: www.bikegrantstrail.com/

Unfortunately, I live on the west side (St. Charles County) and don't have much personal knowledge about things to the south.

Hello, SPOLwife! I am in the "south of St. Louis" area too. Our buddies tend to inhabit this trail - http://www.mostateparks.com/stjoe/trails.htm

Hello, I too am a newbie from Missouri. Just checking out the site. I'm from KC, but living in Columbia as I am college student. I have use of a Marin Bayview Trail and a Trek 320.

I'm only in MO for 1 year and live in west St. Louis county. I don't know much about your area, but we have lots of hilly, low-traffic rural type roads. Enjoy the bike, maybe we will get in a few months of cooler weather.

Hi SPOLwife! Nice to meet some other newbies!

I know what you mean about already being addicted. What time I don't spend at work or on my bicycle, I'm spending online looking at bike-related sites. I'm even thinking about getting some cycling books . . . and was disappointed that Wal-Mart didn't carry any cycling magazines.

I'm only about 3 hours south of St. Louis . . . my family is originally from the Bible Grove (near Downing) area of Northeast MO. We travel to St. Louis from time to time to enjoy ballgames and some time away from home.

Good luck . . . see ya 'round the forums!

Julie

Yep, we did Grant's Trail TWICE this weekend. Saturday I could only do about 4.8 miles on it, but Sunday we did 6!!! (Yeah, I know...I'm still new to being back on a bike!!!) My stamina is building nicely though, and I was able to go longer periods of time and not have to stop as much. It was so much fun, and I'm definitely looking forward to doing more of it!

Congrats SPOL! I have been riding for just a few months, and am amazed at how quickly my stamina has built up. Isn't biking a hoot? We took our family for a short ride today (about 4 miles). I am hoping my wife catches the bug, because I am definitely infected! Keep up the good work!
