Foo - The summer project is nearly complete!

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

As some of you know, i bought a lathe and a mill this summer (A lot of overtime at work). And that I am converting the mill to CNC (a lot more time at work, and the main summer project). Well after 5 months of research, planning, learning, working 2-3 jobs, buying, and waiting, its almost done :D . I never thought it would come but I have the X and Y axis done. Z axis is 50% done, the last part I want to make at school to save time. I have put in 30 hours of time, in my dungeon in the basement making parts and modifying the micro mill itself. The only thing that is holding me back now is this stupid circuit board which was not functioning properly and i had to order replacement parts for it :(.
Pictures when its all done
What do you plan on making? I spent a year of my life programming CNC machines. Damn G code.

I should be in bed right now, but i cant sleep. So screw it.
I have no idea what i will make. Most likely parts for other projects I decide to tackle...
maybe a small engine, just about anything i can think of that this thing can produce
Have you seen this:
Linux CNC (http://www.linuxcnc.org/)

Yea I have actually, i have never used it though. I hear positive things about it, and I would use it but I was given an old computer (see my DOS is hard thread). And this thing runs off DOS and i doubt can support linux with such little memory.
What do you think of the linux controller?

How much memory is on your old box? here's what the linuxcnc faq says:
"This varies somewhat with the version of EMC and Linux distribution that you install. The more modern versions are best installed on Pentium-II class (or better) machines running 500 MHz or faster and having 256 MBytes or more RAM. Older versions can run on Pentium-I machines at 100 MHz with 128 MBytes of RAM."

I might be taking a job as a trainee working on a CNC Lathe...
I got nothin' to contribute to this discussion.

Happen to have plans/blueprints/CAD that you wouldn't mind sharing? I got bored and drew up an XY axis mill platform on a custom drive platform.
Seeing it in action would be a thing of beauty, probably leaving many engineers impressed.

I wouldnt bother making a cnc mill from scratch, or using the milling table with the drill press route either.
There is a lot of information online regarding converting the Sieg bench mills (all 3 sizes of them, i am using the smallest).
