Can we have a temporary front page like we had during the "BiC Pen debacle" only with a message similar to this:

In an effort to assist the victims of Hurricane Katrina the Red Cross needs cash donations ASAP. http://www.redcross.org/
Cash donations are much better than donating material items as it's much easier to convert the funds in to exactly what they need rather than having to inventory and transport randomly donated items.
If your employer is matching donations by all means do it that way

I think the fine folks here can and will make a difference if prompted.

Nice to see that the mods and admins actually read the G-damn suggestions around here and actually give a **** enough to reply to their own *********** suggestion area one way or another

Unfortunately the mods and myself can't do this. This is purely a joe thing as he has control of the web side. The information has been forwarded to him, but if he isnt around he can't do much and neither can we. Sorry Raiyn.

Bear in mind all of this could have been avoided with a simple "I like / dislike the idea and I'll run it by Joe"

I apologize for the tone, but not for how I feel or what I said. I'd like a frontpage with links to the various charities assisting in the Rescue and Recovery effort. For an example http://www.cnn.com/SPECIALS/2005/katrina/help.center/ is precisely what I'm looking for.

I appreciate your altruism, but there are hundreds (thousands?) of ways to give money to support Katrina's victims. Here (http://www.redcross.org/)'s a link to the Red Cross (http://www.redcross.org/).

The Mods also created this thread (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=136602) about displaced forum members.

That's lovely, but check the dates. That was done a day after my rant and several days after others already had threads looking for specific members (ie RainmanP and nolageek). While it's great that it's a centralized thread, it has nothing to do with what I'm after.
I still say a link page such as the one CNN has (that I linked to previously) would be perfect even if it was a direct copy.

<FYI>Most of the later posts in this thread were removed so you're missing the whole story which you can get from Admin</FYI>

Raiyn's right.

Web code is cheap, and the benefits of even one extra donation would be invaluable.

Would be a classy move (and the right thing to do)

I think most people who have considered a donation (to the red cross or otherwise) have done so already or have many other websites that they frequent providing links.

It would be classy.. to an extent.. but I for one wouldn't like being forced to click past red cross advertisements to get to the forums. It's annoying enough to see their ads in between posts in threads as I have no intention of ever donating to the Red Cross (specifically) for reasons that belong in another thread.

You miss the point. There are plenty of organizations that need help. There would be no ads, only a single link page that would have a pass through link at the top or bottom.

9/13/05 Has there been ANY response from Joe on this?

Joe is likely on extended leave. He leaves the pc for a month and comes back, goes for 2 weeks and comes back. This could be a little extended. I know he was around right at the end of last month. I cant say much more than be patient. Sorry
