Mountaintop finish won by Heras, Menchov, and Blanco. Overall now Heras, Menchov +6", and Sastre +1'01".

A Cat 2 and a Cat 1 in the last 23 Km. Piil led alone for about 10 Km after losing his two companions. He was caught with 2 Km to go.

Aitor Gonzalez cracked. No more overall predictions from me for this year.

After Gonzalez' stunt to win the Vuelta a few years back, I don't care if he ever wins anything else.

How can Heras look so bad in the Tour and so good in the Vuelta? Anyway, good win for him today.

All a question of conditioning, etc., of course.

The French commentators use a term often that fit him yesterday. That is magesterial. He seemed to be cool, calm, and in control all the way. More good news is that Beloki actually paced him up much of the last Cat 1. I hope that he is finally coming back into form.

... what happened to Aitor ...
I don't know. There is only about an hour and a half (maybe two) of coverage, and I never saw him or heard anyone mention him.
