General Cycling Discussion - idiotic bicyclist

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Yesterday evening while I was going to the movie theatre in a fuel efficient car, i had stopped at a stop sign, and then a girl on a bicycle coming off of the sidewal from the rear-left end of the car hit the side of the car. She wasnt injured and the car was only scraped a little, but I just think some people like that shouldnt be bicycling. I feel as though she helps to make the stereotype of bicyclists that swerve in traffic and cause accidents. Theres really nothing I personally can do about having to share the road with a couple bad apple bicyclists. I'm not trying to bad mouth bicyclists or anything, considering that I am one, but why are bicyclists given more slack for that sort of thing, especially children?
I am of the opinion that just because someone is in possession of or operating a bicycle he or she is not necessarily a cyclist.

I concur with the preceding comments, but I am far less concerned about idiotic pedestrians and cyclists than about idiotic motorists, because the latter are far more likely to injure or kill other road users.

Carl I agree a true cyclist KNOWS how to operate thier vehicle in a safe manner. Look at Devster covering his rear "fuel efficient" car hes says. :roflmao: He just doesn't want to get sucked in to the "Thread from Hell"

Perhaps because they generally have less mass and speed than most motorized vehicles. Possibly becasue there is usually no chance to recover awards from bicycle insurance companies. I suppose it is less likely for either party to call law enforcement to the scence in the case of a minor bike to car encounter than it would be were two motor vehicles involved.
Maybe it simply that you give them too much slack.
