I guess this is the forum to place this thread, seeing that Roadies seem to have head-and-shoulders Italian influences above all other cyclists, I was wondering who's gone Italiano, a la Breaking Away, that is until the guy gets beaten up by the Italians. I'd like to, but my own father is quite like the dad on Breaking Away.

Eitherwhoo, I was on the bike path, and I saw a guy on a Pinerello (hope I spelled right), wearing Campy clothing, singing something in Italian, all while passing me doing @ least 30 no sweat (I was working on my sprints @ that time). As long as he dosn't put a bike pump in my spokes, he's cool in my book.:)

I know lotek and Velocipedo (again, hope I spelled right) have posted their ideas on Italian music in previous posts, and I was wondering how much has anybody here gone Italian?

Went out with an Italian guy and a Sicilian guy. Much fun ;) The first one got it in his head that I was going to learn Italian and move to Montreal to be with him, so I know a little bit. Can sing the words to some well known Italian songs. But what that has to do with Italian bikes, I don't know! I've SEEN them....

Man, I swear my father IS that guy! He even looks like him. (back to the subject)

I had the pleasure of visiting Italy this year. I spent 12 days exploring via a rental car, taking in as much as possible - this included watching the end of stage #9 of the Giro in Caserta. I also spent time in Roma (Rome), Taormina, Naples (Napoli), Sorrento, Cortona and Venice (Venezia).

If you have the opportunity - go. It was a truly fantastic experience. Now if I could just learn the language and learn to drive 7 abreast on two lane roads. :D

I lived in Vicenza for over two years in the late 50s. But I had no interest in bicycles, so didn't even know that Campagnolo was there. :(

Guess I will just have to back for a visit. ;)

Cheers...Gary

As of this Friday, August 23rd I will have been married to a wonderful woman for 27 years. And she's Italian descent of course!

I love all things Italian! The food (been eating it for a long time!). the wine, the music, the cars (even if you don't approve of gas-burners you have to admit the beauty of a Ferrari?), the clothes (can't afford any of them, but they look good on the Italian women/men in Rome), the art, and especially the bikes. Hey the country is the root of modern civilization don't forget.

I spend two weeks there this June with family and had a blast. We are planning on going back again soon. Went to Roma (Rome), Firenze (Florence), Lucca (Tuscany area), Viareggio and passed through Genova (Genoa) and flew out of Milano. I missed a lot of sites and cities and will get to them next time.

And yes I do have a couple of Italian arias and popular tunes currently going through my head and I can't get rid of them.
