'Don't need it' Ha, ha. Who doesn't need gas? Everyone needs to get their mail at the end of their street (a quick drive, I just watched someone do this last weekend) everyone needs to drive across the street to pick up a 6 pack.

Hm..... like one of those pieces of fiction I read on the net, this one was about EMP taking out all the power and electrical stuff, and the President saying the power will be back on in a few days, then a week, etc., periodically in the story the President would make his address to the people, every few days, saying the power will be back on, things back to normal, became a mere formality.

I'm topping off my vehicles today as well as filling up all my gas cans. It's the smart thing to do. Better have the supplies and not need them than be caught without.

Conservation is anathema to capitalism. No one gets rich off people who choose not to buy stuff. Quite the opposite, in fact.

Conservation would bring our economy to a grinding halt. Instead, we will continue to consume, floating on one bubble after another, until there is nothing left, and we come crashing to earth. Again, my prognosis is deep ****.

This is very true, Phx AZ experienced this not to long ago when a refined gas pipeline to the city was compromised. Governor got on TV and said not to worry, there is plenty of supply. Gas lines developed, prices went over $4/gal, etc. Folks continually and obsessively topped of tanks. Turns out more gas was sold in that one week than any other average week, proving the statement right that supplies were sufficient, but some stations had shortages as folks were topping off tanks faster than the refil trucks normally filled up the stations. Basically the ratio of gas in vehicles to in stations went up, while the total volume increased.

I have an near empty tank in my vehicle at home, its been that way for several weeks, I recently thought about filling it up, but that would entail a useless trip, so I'll wait and fortunately I don't rely on it so if for some reason I can't get gas or don't want to pay, I can wait.

Kinda nice having the next fillup completely optional right now. Told my wife I wasn't going to fill my car up until things settle down again. Nice to be able to do that thanks to the wonderful bicycle. Got my gas station right in my pantry, enough fuel in there for thousands of miles and there are never any lines. :)

Dammit, what am I supposed to do? None of my vehicles have gas tanks. It's a toss up between panicking, and drinking beer and tuning up the commuter. I think the latter, and raise a glass (bottle) to all of those that were in Katrina's path, "Wish you were here. Seriously." It just doesn't feel right complaining about the heat now.

I think the only cities that will use less gasoline are the ones that are under water. Everyone else is simply too spoiled and undisciplined. They'll give up bathing before they give up gas.

No ****. I noticed he hopped onto good 'ol Airforce One (a behemoth 747 Jumbo jet) and tooled down to have a lil' looksie for himself out his side window.

Can you imagine how many thousands of gallons of jet fuel are consumed slowly circling New Orleans at 2,000 feet?

Ech. I take it totally the right way (I think). I've been wanting a better president ever since Bush didn't win the first time.

Keeping it advocacy-like: tomorrow marks my last 40-mile round trip in the car to pick up my children from day care. Following a week of vacation, they are starting at a new preschool/day care less than a mile away where I'll be dropping them off and picking them up with the bike trailer. Yay, me!

Yup, I just got back from the gas station. Waited until nightfall so my neighbors wouldn't see me stocking up on gas. 31.79 gallons of 87 @ 2.939 for $93.44

I got that E-mail as well. Those things about as dumb as the "send this to 10 friends or you'll get back luck" chain letters. I sense that as a prime buying opportunity. Unfortunately the the hurricane threw a wrench into things. I'm hedging my bet that there will be a fallout this Labor Day weekend on supply nationwide, even to the West Coast. If not and the prices go down $0.25 which is what I paid a month ago, big deal it's only $8. But if there's a shortage, it's a major situation.
