A question for any triathletes out there. In my readings on cadence, I've come across many trainers advocating maintaining a cadence of 85-95 rpm for efficiency. I realize that as a triathlete, you need to think about conserving energy for the run and want to minimize going anaerobic. Yet it would seem to me that at least for training purposes, wouldn't it be best to learn how to spin at several different cadences? That way, you're a more "flexible" rider able to respond to greater challenges. E.g. If you can spin 75 gear inches at 90 rpm and someone else can comfortably spin the same at 100 rpm, you're gonna' get dropped by over 2 mph difference, unless you upshift, but that would mean going more anaerobic. What about strength training....ie training to spin a bigger gear faster? Thoughts anyone?
