Mountain Biking - trail pics

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

not the trail i ride daily more like the one I ride monthly.
Here is a link to pictures (http://members.shaw.ca/ehartman/index.html), which I just took this morning, of the trail that is a 30 second ride from my house. I usually ride it every evening with the dog and sometimes on the weekend...if I can't get to bigger trails. The trail is fun, it's fairly twisty, rolly, lots of hardpack, some rocks, roots, and a bunch of creek crossings. I usually just go out and do different laps/loops.
well this is a real bummer.
i took a whole bunch of pics on my ride today, and i cant put them on. it says they are too big. i tried putting my camera on the lowest res. and they are still too big. i guess i cant post any pics :(
You can use a simple program image editing program like MS paint and make them smaller.
i am using a mac. i got all the adobe stuff so i can do it in there. i didnt even think of that.

If you're asking me...the stairs go down to an area with some picnic tables, then after that, it gets into the singletrack stuff. The stairs are off of the paved bike/ped path...they are fun to ride down though.

Nice pics, "never". One question though, why are all the houses there bunched-up so close to each other? Weird to me.

Thanks...and the houses are all close together like that here in the newer developments of Calgary. Basically a big house on smaller lot. Calgary has around 1 million people and more keep on coming all of the time, I guess the city/developers are trying to sell/build as many houses as possible. But the city does have a lot of parks and green spaces so the lack of a yard makes up for it. If I had a bigger yard, I'd have to spend more time maintaining and less time riding!

I know what you mean about a big "grassy" yard. Mine is almost 1 acre, but 95% woods. It takes me 10 mins. to cut my grass.
Those are nice trails man! Especially to be in your "backyard"...

Wow me, really????????? :D Its to keep erosion down. Thats a lot steeper than it looks. All those logs make it really fun to ride.Right at the bottom there's a little 6" board you cross to get back on the trail. If you go off line to thae right you could wind up in the creek.

We don't have very much unpopulated space here in Canada so we have to cram everyone into small spaces ;)

Example of how the "angle" makes all the difference for pic's.
Same spot for both of these, the 2nd was taken from a different angle.

Notice the trees in the lower pic. They're going straight up.
That gives you some idea of the steepness of this section...
i have alot of that stuff. i like it, i cant imagine doing alot of that on a hardtail. i just flow right through it on my full-suspension.

Not exactly a picture, but I threw this together last week:
http://www.shaolinarts-ky.net/tommy/videos/sal_hollow_frame.wmv
I need to cut some of that crap off at the beginning, so if you get bored just skp the first 3 minutes or so. Toward the end you can tell that even with the camera on the head tube, the trail looks smoother than it is--you can see the movement of the front suspension by watching the front brake cable.
If anyone's curious, that video camera and the mount on the frame runs about $35. Brand new.

Wow, I wouldn't mind having one camera like that, too. Could you let us know what that is and where to get? Thanks.
Sweet vid...and more info/pics of the camera and mount would be great.

I'm working on a web page right now. I've got instructions for the helmet mount, but the helmet mount isn't really that good. Since there's no image stabilization it shakes around whenever you move your head (maybe if I cinch the helmet REALLY tight it will sove that, but I doubt it).
It's a CVS "one time use" camcorder. The hardest part of the operation is to solder yourself a cable to plug into the camera--it's not a standard connector.
See my beginnings of a site at www.suburbanninja.com, I'll try to post a topic somewhere when I get everything prettied up and all the instructions down.

Good vid Man!
The cam is reuseable?
Batteries, charger,?
Big Tommy C
09-04-05, 09:23 PM
Uses AA batteries, lasts ~100 minutes on a set.
It's not designed to be reusable (by the purchaser), their intention was for people to buy it and return it, and then resell it.
The folks over at www.camerahacking.com figured this one out, I take no credit for anything but the mount. Tomorrow I'll try to get some pics up of the frame mount, it's the easiest thing ever.

These images are of my favorite (relatively) close trail, Alum Creek. It is a curvy five mile run through the Alum Creek Damn State Park, just north of Columbus. I should note that I didn't take any of these pictures. They are provided courtesy of the Spoke Junkies, a very popular riding club that reviews trails throughout the Midwest.
http://www.spokejunkies.com/reviews/images/alumcreek1.jpg
This is one of the many, many bridges throughout the trail. The trail isn't very hilly at all (the ones that are there are short and a bit steep), with lots of small bridges saving you from many of them.
http://www.spokejunkies.com/reviews/images/alumcreek3.jpg
If any picture sums up Alum, this is it. Of the trails that I have ridden (which isn't a large number), Alum Creek easily has the most roots per square mile, and you can't avoid them. I can't tell you how many times I have had to put down my bike on the account of these suckers. At one point, there is this really steep, really short climb, and just when you think you are going to clear it, you run into this particularly nasty root; on my first ride it stopped all my forward momentum and sent me back down the hill, rewarding me with an especially terrific cut/bruise.
http://www.spokejunkies.com/reviews/images/alumcreek2.jpg
And of course, what trail would be complete without a crap-load of obstacles. Good times.

Taken from the top of Moose Mtn. There is a lookout in the background. At 8200', Moose is one of the tallest mountains in the front range of the Rockies. Up there is nothing but rocks! :)

And, as Maelstrom said, the "rocks" are above the treeline. This is taken from the top of Elbow Loop, which is pretty much at the treeline.

Yes and no, considering the Appalachians are some of the oldest mountains known on Earth. They have had plenty of time to slowly erode and mature whereas the Rockies are still relatively young, geologically speaking.
Although I have never been (yet), I would love to make a trip east. It looks like very beautiful and diverse country to explore by bike!

Since all the other pictures seem to be of forests and mountains, I thought I'd post something completely different. These pictures are from my biannual trip to El Rio de Las Animas Perdidas en Purgatoir known to us unpoetic Coloradoans as the Purgatory River or to the even more uncultured cowboys of the 1800’s as the Pickewire. The ride is 3 hours southeast of Denver near La Junta, Colorado in the Comanche National Grassland. It's not a tough ride but it is memorable. The main attraction is one of the longest dinosaur trackways in the world. The track way is about 1200 feet long and contains over 1000 tracks from 150 individual dinosaurs from 250 million years ago. The area also has petroglyphs from about 1000 years ago, a ranch and an old Mexican mission. The 17 mile round trip usually takes me around 4 hours to complete because we are always finding something new to look at. It's basically an epic easy ride.

Very nice pis there Erhan. I felt almost like I'd rode there since there was so many pics....
I hope that Bear didn't hurt those people! :)
I would be more worried about those weird fuzzy horse things...good thing there is a fence. I never see female riders where I ride, just lots of guys. I guess Missouri just doesnt have many ladies who like to ride their bikes in the woods :( .
