Helmets on a fix is terribly uncool.

Spending the rest of your life in a wheelchair because you wouldn't wear one, now there's the definition of cool.

Chicks dig brain damaged guys that drool on themselves - ditch the helmet! And the brakes. Um, and the bars... And the seat...

Yeah, just ditch the whole bike, go lie on the ground somewhere and have your buddies drop cinder blocks on your head from a ladder. Saves the time waiting for an accident...

Uncool is the new cool. there is always somebody that will think you look like an a55hole no matter what you wear. stop thinking about what you look like and go have fun on your bike.
and if you were asking about temperature. just make sure you get a well ventilated helmet, the wind will keep you cool.

http://www.bhsi.org/stats.htm

Riders with helmets had an 85 percent reduction in their risk of head injury (odds ratio, 0.15; 95 percent confidence interval, 0.07 to 0.29) and an 88 percent reduction in their risk of brain injury (odds ratio, 0.12; 95 percent confidence interval, 0.04 to 0.40).

The exposure survey found that only 11.8 million (18 percent) of the entire population of about 67 million bicyclists wear helmets all or most of the time. Another 6 percent, representing about 4 million riders, reported that they wear helmets sometimes, but less than half of the time.

What if we change the discussion to helmets on Pistas vs Langsters and weather or not people with fewer skid spots should wear less aerodynamic helmets to increase drag therefore increasing stopping abilty.

So basically, helmets reduce the risk of brain injury (a form of head injuries) 3% more than they reduce the risk of head injury? How does this work?

Ride fixed, smoke cigarettes, lose the helmet. When you ride without brakes you become invunerable, now enjoy life!

From imaneffingtard.com/wayofficialstats.html

Riding a campy hat has shown to reduce face injuries from getting punched in the mug cause you look so cool by 88%. Riding with a pink campy hat nobody will touch that, not the angriest driver in the world cause your HAWT BABY, HAWT! Campy hats have been shown that combined with an overly inflated head because you are the coolest person in town your chances of head injuries are greatly decreased by a factor of one zillion kajillion billion parsecs.

Awh dude, -lose the smokes, wear a helmet. I just had to give up cigs (hmmm, Camel Lights...-tasty!), becz I up'd my chain ring to a 48, -from a 44, with a 16 in back...so basically it is a 'trade off' -more speed but no more tasty smokes. And why does a helmet have to cramp your shizzle? ...Life is about "balance" -and passing on your genome with the help of consenting young ladies...period

Wearing a beanie on your head all year round will give you a lovely cushy impact when your head hits the pavement and also acts as a sponge to soak up your lost blood.

What you ought to do is ride with the beer case helmet. They're sooo cool and useful.

Like last night my gf head-butted another girl in the tata while wearing a beer case helmet. I head butted a ton of people and they all though I was "kewl." It also acts as a blinder so you stay focused.

...

On second thought, ditch the helmet and wear an asshat.

Cool is not how you look.
Cool is how you feel.
Only you know how you feel.
If you're happy. You're happy...helmet or no.
Go out and be happy. That's cool.

When you hit a pedestrian make sure you're wearing your campy hat so they know they were hit by someone who was cool.

I wear a helmet when riding my Langster, have front light and read blinkie which I use at night, and I'm thinking of putting a Blackburn rack on, the world's first Langster with a blackburn rack! And panniers! Whoohoo!

That story is awful and I wish that on nobody. I wear a helmet anyways but it's been in enough minor crashes/big drops over the last two years that I think it might be time for a new one. What do people know about catlike? I heard that they don't distribute in the US anymore and I was wondering why. Also, anyone know their availability in London?

Nah, you should be fine, which reminds me of an interesting true story:

My cousin was eleven when he got hit while riding his bike on the sidewalk near his house by a neighbor backing out of her driveway. He suffered traumatic head injuries, and spent the next 27 years of his life in a vegetative state, confined to his bed, wearing diapers, and being fed through a tube. His organs finally gave out at the age of 38, and he died. Funny story, huh?

But that probably won't happen to you.

alright - I am thinking of getting a helmet. Does anyone have any suggestions for a relatively good looking helmet? Low profile? I want it to be as no obtrusive as possible. Is there such thing as a stylish helmet - hahaha

A friend who's a bike messenger in SF claimed to me that wearing a helmet makes her more reckless and hence more likely to crash. I don't buy it though, I think that too many people are obsessed with appearances and think that a helmet makes you look uncool.

Real cool is bouncing your helmeted head on hard objects when you crash and laughing it off.

Bicycle helmets give you a false sense of security.

But they are cool...
