Right now Cannondale looks like our best option for a new tandem, because of their sizing. I'm 6'4, 235#, my wife is 5'7" and about 140 or so (she won't say!).

We got a Burley catalog, and have checked online as well...but they don't show the actual measurements of their different sizes. Anyone have this info, preferably the sizing of their Large road tandems?

The 2005 Burley catalog has a listing of tandem sizes on page 42.
The Large aluminum and steel road frames are 23/20 inches or 59/51cm
Front top tube 23.2 inches or 59 cm; stoker top tube 27.5 inches or 70 cm
Front standover height 32.7 inches or 83 cm; rear standover 29.9 inches or 76 cm for the alu frame
Steel frame has slightly different standover height: front 32.6 inches or 82.7 cm; rear 30.2 inches or 72.6 cm.

Anyhow...ok...a Burley looks like it may be a bit small for me. I ride a 63cm road bike...looks like it's on to a Cannondale dealer!

I don't know the exact dimensions but I would recommend a large for you. I have a medium Rivazza 05 and I am 6'1" and my stoker is 5'4". Hope that helps.

Found it in their catalog...looks like the measurement for the L is a 59cm c-top. Pretty darn small for me...

FWIW: I ride a 62 cm road bike (center-top) but our X/M C'dale (56 cm center-top) fits just fine. Of course the seatpost sticks out quite far so the handlebar was too low. To compensate this I added an Ahead stem-raiser that moves the entire handlebar 2 inches up (these devices can also be had in 3 inches). This works fine although some might not like the aesthetics :) Perhaps you should have a J/L Cannondale but that type has a whopping 62,5 cm top tube and that's not for everybody!

I am 6'6" and my wife is 5'6" and we ride a Large Tosa. I feel I easily fit. My wife fits, but it is close. I strongly advise you guys to get on the two bikes and ride them. It would be worthwhile.

Cool...thank you for the information. Unfortunately, we may not be able to ride ANY of the tandems we are interested in. Our closest dealer that actually has anything in stock is 3 hours away.

We are leaning towards a Burley now. C'dales are nice too, but we've got a better chance at riding a Burley before we purchase. Plus I like the looks of them better.

Compared to a single road bike, standover room for the pilot on a tandem should be more as he needs to be able to stand over the toptube with *both feet* flat on the ground and spread out a bit. Reason: when stoker gets seated as captain holds the bike, she will pedal backward to get the captain's correct pedal in the the start-off position; if you do not stand with feet apart you will get whacked (ouch!) by the roating pedal!

. . . also, in case of a real panic stop on the tandem, it's awfully nice for the pilot to get both his feet on the ground and not unceremoniously dump the both of you to the tarmac (double ouch!).

FWIW - we just purchased a medium Burley Tosa. I'm 6' 2" and my wife is 5' 3" so we need the smaller stoker size. My road bike is custom sizing around a 60 CM (59.1 TT and 120 stem) and the hoods on the Burley are further out than my single and the Burley only has a 110 stem. The reach is just fine.

I did flip the stem around but it is still a bit of a drop for me, compared to my single (about 3/4" low). Either a riser stem adapter or an adjustable stem will cure this.

I am pretty comfortable on the Burely -- the ride is very nice as well.
