Jeff Beck.
Good Choice!! :)
My favorite guitarist is Dickie Betts of The Allman Brothers, though I guess he doesn't count as an 80's metal guitar god. So who do I choose?
Eddie and Randy were good, but I think slightly overrated.
I'll go with one who I think was not given enough attention. The group (in retrospect) kinda sucked, but he was a shining star as a great guitarist.
Warren DiMartini of RATT.

There is no best. I have loved and lived with so many. It would be hard to choose. All the choices above rock, and thats what matters, being an ozzy fan...I could be biased/pressured to the first choice though.
Uhh, how could you all forget SRV?

Well, I hoped you were kidding... Anyway, Randy Rhoads was Ozzy's guitarist, right? He passed away, then, I think, Jake Lee was on Ultimate Sin, and then Zakk joined up on No Rest For The Wicked. Zakk has a polka dot V as kinda a tribute(like his Dime' guitars, too) 'cause Randy was a badass guitarist. Okay, I didn't explain that worth a damn. Somebody wanna help me out/correct my info?:o

R. L. Burnside, a master at his craft. May he rest in peace.

Anybody remember CC DeVille from Poison???
"CC pick up that guitar and talk to me!"
{I am sooooooooo kidding with this post...best and 80s do NOT belong in the same sentence!**
Actually, Slash would also be up there in my all time guitarists. Jeff Beck, Eddie Van Halen, and Slash...

Vintage Kerry King, with the nails. Skill, no. Image and style, yes. Slayer was more metal than anyone. Oh, the good old days...

I was alive for a little over 3 months in the 80's... :P
Tony Iommi would be my choice (even though my favorite black sabbath songs are from the two 1970 albums), or Angus Young (even though AC/DC's best was in the 70's)
Rural Roadie

These guys make some good noodling tunes, although Chastain's unphotogenic visage has probably hurt his career.

Of just the 80's? There was no BEST guitarist. Can you pick just one guitarist that played on many different albums that each, for those who care about crap like that, sold millions? He/she could be considered the best then.
I have too many overall fav guitarists whose melodies and/or solos stick in my mind, but just a few are Steve Howe(YES), Alex Lifeson(RUSH), Jimmy Page(Zeppelin), Dave & Adrian(Iron Maiden), Ty Tabor(King's X), Dave Mustaine(Megadeth), Glenn & KK(Judas Priest), Steve & Phil(Def Leppard)......

No, they earned a grammy, but not that particular grammy. One of the main reasons I don't watch or recognize any of those awards shows. Bunch o' BS, IMO.

Eddie Van Halen!!!
Clearly, you've never had to suffer through the GRINDING boredom of Van Halen in concert. Twice in the Roth era, and all I could keep thinking was "Why didn't I bring any rocks?"
Best guitarist of the 80s = Rik Emmett.

What about Lawnmower Deth?
May have been a 'comedy' band but I saw them live at Rock City, Nottingham in the late '80s and their guitarist (Dog Bowler I think) impressed me for a live gig.

The Alpha-rock band. Established the rulebooks for a few different
genres....Glam/ punk and 80's metal.......
http://cover6.cduniverse.com/MuzeAudioArt/120/129540.jpg
80's metal was greatly maligned. Yeah , the hair and lycra looked
stoopid but they were guys / grrrrls who had guitars and werent
afraid to play them ! no sissy keyboards, no whiney, sniveling EMO crap.....
Just songs about the great, time honored traditions of getting loaded and scoring
through Marshalls and Fenders....no Pro-Tools, no 7 string Ibanez crap etc...
