First thing in the morning I went to the bike shop with my rear wheel in hand. The mechanic checked the wheel hub and didn't find anything wrong. I went to another bike shop and bought a $15 tire for the rear wheel. It was pretty cool of the bike mechanic at Riverdale, where I was getting the repairs done, to recommend looking for a tire at another shop when all they had was a $50 tire that I wasn't too crazy about. As I was walking home from the shop, I noticed the cassette sticking again, so I returned to the bike shop and ended up having to buy a new free wheel mechanism that the cassette rests on for $40. A little unexpected but at least I could take care of this in Whitehorse and not in the middle of nowhere, B.C. I got some goodies at the store to cook up another fat Spanish omelet for Cory, Chantel, and myself and returned to Cory's. Thomas was satisfied with a couple of muffins and ditched out on our delish meal. I packed up my things and then we headed to the Midnight Sun coffeehouse so I could say goodbye to Chantel at work and have a delicious mocha for the road. It turned out Mel flaked out on the bear spray, so I just went without.
Thomas and I started out of Whitehorse on a very hot and sunny day. The scenery was very nice and we enjoyed the views as we slowly worked our legs back into the cycling groove. We took a couple breaks about 15 miles apart and then we approached Marsh Lake, which provided a beautiful sight. As we continued cycling along Marsh Lake, Thomas informed me it was time to stop, and his legs could take no more. So we pitched our tents and had dinner on a clearing near the roadside, opposite of a small subdivision of homes by the lake. While we were settling down, a man in a truck stopped and my first instinct told me he was going to tell us to leave, but he was just a nice guy interested in our travels and ended up giving us some juice and snacks from his cooler. I caught up on some journal writing and then washed up in a nearby creek before going to sleep. (37 miles)

Peace

Dave
