Advocacy & Safety - bike bigots

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I find I am constantly amazed by the attitudes some folks have about cyclists exercising their legal rights to share the road with motorists...
Case in point: this craigslist post, from my supposedly bike-friendly town, seattle!

Wow. I just sent the guy an e-mail... hope he enjoys it.
i love letter writing to a$$ holes.
"glad you got hit wish more drivers would hit you ass holes that is why they made bike trails more of you ass holes should stay there the laws are so ****ed up roads are for motor vesicles not kid bikes want to ride go on the trails that are set for that believe me when I go to down town and I see one of you aholes I try and cut you off block you in and most of all run your ass off the road I drive a huge blue van if you see me move it or pay I HATE BIKES ... why don't you get a real bike"
OR RATHER:
"Glad you got hit. I wish more drivers would hit you ass holes. That is why they made bike trails. More of you ass holes should stay there. The laws are so ****ed up. Roads are for motor vehicles, not kid(s?) bikes. [want to ride go on the trails that are set for that (omit this line all together, as it makes no sense at all)] Believe me, when I go to down town and see one of you a-holes, I try and cut you off, block you in, and most of all, run your ass off the road. I drive a huge blue van. If you see me, move it or pay. I HATE BIKES! Why don't you get a real bike?"
Hey Puke-For-Brains,
For starters, finish the 6th grade. I know people have said this to you before, but, "Damn! You're dumb!" Run-on sentences? Do you know what dot, dot, dot means? Most of your content doesn't even make sense, but for your convenience, I've taken liberties and made the appropriate corrections (with some editing of content to move the dialog along). Now you can re-post this and perhaps you may gain some sympathy for your cause.
Second, bicycles have been here long before you and your child molester van, and will be here long after. As luck would have it, you've got a good home in that van, considering it's only a matter of time until they catch you j*rking off to midget porn in the back room of the smut house you work in while your supposed to be wiping j*sm off the walls. I'm glad you've made such a sensible choice in purchasing your "vesicle".
And lastly: What on earth is that any way? VESICLE??? Freudian slip?
Remember... (dot, dot, dot) We have every bit as much right to be on the road as you. Read the manual.
Eat Sh*t and Die, Respectively,
A Friend

Hello, Hester! Did you actually send that message to Marvinmama? It seems to fit his character in the way he behaves toward us bicyclists. However, It's my opinion he didn't get beyond the 2nd grade and should fully learn to read and write before sending an e-mail back.

I think I saw that guy today! I was riding by Apple's headquarters (1 Infinate Loop, Cupertino) today and saw one very pissed off driver in an SUV screeching around and then a very pissed off musclecar driver, in fact I was hoping the musclecar guy would want to get in a game of measuring-stick with the SUV guy, but they were too far apart, darn, that would have been cool.

I just hope the message was sent by Marvinmama and not by someone who hates him.

granted, that's always a possibility. actually, he responded to my e-mail saying it was a mix-up and asking where it was posted. said he rides bikes everyday.
if this is the case, i just hope he's like me and enjoys random hate mail. i think it keeps the spirit up, gives you something to laugh about. i guess you can always change your e-address.
who would hate someone enough to do that unless the guy was an a$$ hole to begin with?
