Read the nutritional label on other brands. I have in my fridge a imitation mayo which has 10 cals/Tbs. It's not quite as yummy as real mayo but the texture and color are the same. :)
Try mustard. Add some spice to your life. It is really good, after you get over the "tuna salad is not supposed to have mustard".

Try nonfat yoghurt or cream cheese. Cottage cheese might work too. And don't be afraid to get creative with herbs and spices. My wife had elevated the tunafish sandwich to an art form. I'll ask her.

If you want GOOD fat for your tuna sandwich, try mixing a can with a tablespoon of olive oil. Delicious.

Well, I haven't heard anyone say Cheez Whiz yet. All of these suggestions serve to point out what you already know to be right: Just eat the mayo. If you have to, use Miracle Whip. It has zippy tang. Or tangy zip. Mustard and tuna? Eeurgh.

Is eating tuna fish extremely important to cycling. I have heard comments such as "tuna fish is gods gift to cyclists." Why do people say this and what are some decent places to get affordably priced tuna fish.

Several alternatives:
Miracle Whip has less fat/calories
Get a brand from a health food store which does not have saturated or hydrogenated fats
Whole Foods has something called Nayonaise. See wolfheirs post, above.
I use Miracle Whip and get my healthy fats from other sources.
TexasGuy, I don't know about San Anton, but around here Tuna Fish is b*tt-cheap, name brands for like $.59 a can, and you can catch it on sale for less like every other week. Get the stuff packed in water, not oil. High protein, low fat, low cost. What's not to like? Some say it contains mercury, which is a problem. I dunno, I eat it. Maybe the mercury is why I'm crazy.

Blueberries with mayonaise??
HUMMUS! Well in a regular sandwich case. But in my house we use nayonaise, which im pretty sure is a soy product. I havent really eaten much real mayo in my life so I cant tell the difference when I ahve realy mayo.
Fat isn't all evil. Just make sure it's good fat and what how much of it you eat.
As for mayo, make your own. (http://www.foodnetwork.com/food/recipes/recipe/0,1977,FOOD_9936_16262,00.html) It's not hard, it tastes *much* better than store bought and you get to control exactly what goes into it...

There's Nayonnaise, but there is also Vegenaise which is vastly superior as far as taste. I recommend it. (and it's Vegan - rawk!!!)

hummus.
A little off topic, but have you ever ventured onto the mainland & tried the food at The Golden Pyramid? It's worth the trip.
Excellent hummus & the rest of the menu is simply fantastic as well.
No but it will be kept in mind. Thanks. :)
King Sooper's/Kroger has a store brand horseradish sauce which is surprisingly low in fat and other bad stuff. I also use mild or medium salsa. Yum. And Walkafire? Blueberries are God's gift to the WORLD

Not really. It's #3 ingredient is high fructose corn syrup. Google it.
Pure mustard rules. Read the ingredients. Should have little more than mustard seed, water, vinegar & spices. There are some store and national brands that are starting to dilute the above ingredients with partially hydrogenated soybean oil, another DEVIL ingredient. Avoid these.

What would happen if you put the fish between slices of bread (lightly toasted) with perhaps a bit of lettuce and slice of tomato? No mayo or mayo substitute! Crazy?

I think I should be ashamed of this, but I really LIKE Cheez Whiz. I like Spam too. I no longer eat either one of them, but I really DO like them both.

just eat normal mayonnaise, but dont eat too much of it
instead just cut down on the amount you use
there is no point in eating that fake mayo, it tastes horrible
life is short
my advice is to eat the regular mayo in reduced amount and just get out on your bike for a few more minutes and burn it off

I was in Israel over winter break and I gotta second the Hummus suggestion. Even by itself with some cucumbers between two crusty pieces of bread all "paninied". Yum...
how about gaucamole or avacado slices on a sandwich? I think the stuff is yum yum! lots of the good fats.
Hummus and avacado=mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

To address the mercury concern...
Tuna DOES have elevated levels of mercury in it, and you should not eat it for three meals a day or it will eventually build up to dangerous levels in your fatty tissues (even you scrawny guys have some!). Albacore is actually much higher than normal 'layman's' tuna.
You can eat a lot of it, just don't gorge yourself on it every meal. Mercury isn't something to play around with.
