Forum Suggestions & User Assistance - Regional forums?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
This must have been suggested before. Sometimes you might want to ask a question such as:"What's the best bike shop in my neighborhood?" or "Who is riding in the <Insert name here> Century next week?", etc.
These often don't really quite belong in another specific forum. Of course we adapt by prepending "NYC:", "SFO:" and the like on our posts. It would be nifty if there was a regional forum with subforums for all the nice places BF folks inhabit.

That would be huge and cumbersome to manage, going well beyond the means of the mods on this site to manage. I love the idea, but the work involved would be huge.
How about a thread: like the Denver Metro area one?

Well certainly I didn't mean every city gets it's own forum. I do understand that we'd probably need a few volunteers to monitor the extra groups.

Well where does it stop...Break it down in to timezone? When we hit europe or australia do we have one for all of europe or countries? In america there are distinct differences between pnw and psw. Those are just examples. The regional forums would be huge.

I'd make it demand based rather than trying to break it down by every region right off the bat. If enough people ask for a place then make it. High Density places like NYC, SFO, Seattle, Portland, Boston, Chicago, etc... would likely have thier own groups other folks might post to a general NorthEast US or some such. If no one in the Yukon is asking then there wouldn't be one for there... etc.
To be honest I doubt you'd see a ton of interest outside of the urban population centers.
That way if for instance I was taking a trip to London and wanted the skinny on best places to rent bikes, differences in rules of the road, stupid places to ride, what I should see, and who wants to get a pint I could post there. Rather than seeing if someone turns up in the roadie forum who happens to be from there and gives a rat's butt.
that said the NYC forum will be full of fixie riders typing "LOL" over and over again ;)
