Road Cycling - A saddle question...

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I have noticed lately that when I am riding that often I am sitting further up on the saddle when my hands are on the brake hoods. (meaning: I feel less supported by the saddle because I am sitting further forward on it.) Even though I am not sitting on the 'meat' of the saddle I still naturally end up in this spot when pedaling....feels sometimes like im almost 'sliding forward. The saddle is level.
Question: Could the fore/aft be incorrectly adjusted? or would it be a bad idea to move the saddle forward? I apologize if the question is worded awkwardly.
Yes, and maybe.Frigging with saddle position to get different reach to bars is poor form if it comprimises proper KOP position.Maybe you need a shoeter stem or smaller frame.

Dear H20
I am not entirely clear on this...what changed recently to make your riding position uncomfortable all of the sudden? Don't be afraid to take an allen wrench to your seat and play around with fore/aft/angle. As long as the seat post clamp is clamping the horizontal part of your seat rails, you should be fine.

Right, I know.
Im just thinking that since I end up further forward on the saddle when I pedal, that maybe I actually need to move the saddle forward, which I have not tried....problem is that im worried that it will be harder to get down into a more aero position iwth the saddle pushed farther forward. I dont think it will affect the KOPS position because I end up sitting farther up near the nose naturally when pedaling at normal cadence....which is of course uncomfortable to a degree on my butt.
Maybe you need to tilt the nose upward?

So move the seat forward and see if you still wind up scooching forward. If you do, something else is going on. If I understand you correctly, you want to move the seat underneath where you are sitting anyway.. is that correct? I had the same issue only the other way. I kept sitting way back on the saddle so I moved the saddle back there and I was ok.
If you're a male, long hours in the position your describing will cause serious harm to the private areas. Forever.
As mentioned, get out a wrench and shift the seat around and figure it out. Don't be afraid to experiment.
The future of your family may depend on it.

Not sure this applies. However, I read somewhere that a straight back was good form and the way to achieve it or check to see if your back is straight is to consciously try to push your stomach/abs downward toward the bike. I tied this and found out that I was indeed hunching up and moving forward on the seat a bit.
