Here is what you need to do. Just like doing a huge drop or jump for the first time, your blood starts pumping your adrenalin flows, you grit your teath and off you go AHHHHHHHHHH!!! When it's all over and done with you say to your self, "That was not so bad...".
Same thing with the purchase of your new bike, JUST DO IT AND GET IT OVER WITH!;)

Thanks for the encouragement Dirtbikedude! I just remember my daughters face when I bunhie jumped practically over her head. I thought she was sleeping . I did not intend to terrify her! I will terrify my husband however when I hand him the receipt from my purchase so that he can"keep track of expenses"
It's a Terry Madeline. I actually am getting a better deal than that on a Demo. Have a good friend that is helping me make the right decisions that is very familiar with the"sport". I'm having a great time testing bikes. I like the Madeline the best so far. It' what has been the basis of my good dreams for the past two nights!:)

In all my time lurking and as a member of this distinguished group of cencerned, practical and knowledgeable cyclists, I do not recall any single instance where anyone was encouraged or assisted in spending less.
Though there may have been a time or two where less expensive components or bikes were mentioned, my recollection is that it was done only in support of spending the savings on something else at the LBS.
Once you have secumbed to the well meaning, heartfelt advice of this august group, you then must deal with what I call the "LBS factor." This is a cycling specific mathematical principle which stated roughly is, "If the receipt you leave the LBS with totals less than twice your pre-visit spending limit, you have succeeded in restraining your spending and in fact stayed within that limit:p

Thanks Webist! I took the plunge while hubby was away on business. Whats done is done right?
I thusly picked him up at the airport and shuffled him of to Buffalo to the Apple Computer Store for a midnight madness type of geek fest. He was relaxed and happy. I waited until he spent $600.00 and had another $300.00 worth of "extras" in his posession; escorted him to the service counter and just as he was signing his name to the visa slip I told him. All he could say was "good for you honey". I replied by stating "I knew you would be proud of me"! See...it all how you present it.
Off to enjoy my new purchase!
