My LBS has a brand new 04 Langster Pro with dura ace low-flange hubs on Mavic Open Pros. Nitto steel track drops and Sugino 75 crankset. They're asking $800.

Now I know people aren't crazy about these bikes, but I wonder even about the wisdom of buying it, keeping the good parts to put on another frame and then selling the frame. I figure it might fetch $300 on ebay. Or not.

Anyway, to all of you with far more experience in these matters than I...good idea or not?

for the record a new langster goes for about $550
how much do you think all those parts are worth?

you could keep the parts you mentioned and scrap the frame/fork/bb/headset and be up in the game still. probably get $400 +/- $50 or so for that... then you got a nice set of wheels, cranks and bars for a decent price.

he's talking about the langster pro. original retail in '04 was $1300.
The duraace hubs alone go for about $200, the crank is over $200.
It has a nice parts package. it's a tight bike. nice for a modern style track bike.
is it a good deal? depends on what you want and how much money you have. I considered buying the one they had on sale for $1000 at bicycle habitat in NY. but i decided against it.

I just got the bike for $700 off of ebay. It was barely used only track miles. Great components for the price.

There's always someone with a better deal. Maybe I'll offer them $700 to take it off their hands. It's been there for more than a year.
