if you have seen last month''s mountain biking magazine, you would see that gunn-rita dahle's bike is clearly outfitted with Tektro V's. if tektros are so bad, why is the world's top female XC using them?

My friend has Tektro disc on his bike, and I really dont find them that bad.

Tektro V-brakes are cheap and reliable...or at least on my commuter they are.

It's pretty hard to screw up a V brake.

can we get back on topic...

i'd assume there are different models. People race (and win) on Epics...doesn't mean that the hardrock spt is a great bike. I'm sure she's running very nice brakes, but those probably aren't the same as the brakes on your entry-level bike.
Tektro Quartz's are nice. For what its worth, the absolute base model Tektro's feel great on my singlespeed. Very stiff and good feel.

I use Tektro brake lever's, with no complaints whatsoever....
What's in a name....

Racer's get paid to use what is on the bike. And often, though it looks the same, it's nothing like what you or I might purchase. Forks may have different internals, custom valving, frames custom made with different angles than stock. Maybe her brakes are stock, maybe not. And I'm sure her brakes are taken care of by a pro mechanic!
Not knocking the brakes, just that I wouldn't put too much credence in what pros run on their bikes.

Some pros can use whatever equipment they want. Jan Ullrich for example.
I know that in road cycling riders will mask what brand of tire they are using to appease their sponsor.
In the recent world cup many riders were using v-brakes. Both the male/ female elite xc first place and male 3rd place used v-brakes. The course was also not very technical. Even companies that make high end gear like Shimano can make a piece of sh1t. The advantage is simply weight. Thats all.

Just another testimonial: I run Tektro brake levers on my Banshee Scream with Avid bb7's and they perform as well as anything else.
