Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - How You Roll: Tire Width

Random, I know. But I'm bored at work, and a little curious about what people are rolling on... especially "urban" riders (i.e. big city bikers).

(kinda) hard and (fairly) skinny. 23's at ~105.

Is Cincinnati a big city? I don't know, but 23's are on the fix and 20's are on the road bike.

Vittoria Rubino Pros 23C at 120 PSI have been nice to me so far, but they really suck compared to the 35C Michelin World Tours on my old town bike!

23c Rubinos, 23c Gatorskins, or 23c michelin pro race, depending on the bike. All at 115psi.

I've seen articles saying that if you weigh over 175lbs you shouldn't ride less than a 25c...

21c tubulars

27x1 1/8" on the primary fixie, 700x23 front, 700x25 on the rear on the other fixie, which is seldom ridden.

23s on both road and fixed

23c in the front, 27x1 1/8 in the back. She's not pretty, but some day I will get a new rear wheel.

I used to ride only 23c's until my little accident back in March. Got a little paranoid about my front tire slipping through a bridge again so I moved up to 25c's on Gatorskins for an even bigger feel.

Lately though, the ride has been feeling sucky and I flatted my second rear Gatorskin this year (way too much big glass and metal floating around Chicago - any tire would eat it) and so I threw on an old-ish Vredestein Fortezza on the front (23c) that I had around from when I loved them to death (props to isotope for introducing me to those). The nice gatorskin is on the back, the Vredestein up front. 25c and 23c respectively. It's odd but the ride felt instantly better as soon as I did so, thus serving up a good compromise between flat protection and a nice feel on the ride.

And I'm real careful about those bridges, opting for a sidewalk whenever possible.

I've been debating new tires of late: either some Michelin Megamium's or some Conti Grand Prix's. Though I've been liking the combo above for the streets.

Hutchison Carbon Comp in front, Specialized All Conditions Pro in back, both 700x23, both at 120psi.

25 on both my road bike and my track bike - I have computer harnesses on both bikes so I can swap the computer in seconds and it remains accurate. I find this to be a good width, as I am not a competitive cyclist and don't always ride on the smoothest streets. I weigh 150 and pump em up to 100, but will ride em down to 50psi before I reinflate. Never had a pinch flat.

23's came with my bike, and I think I'll stay with them. I just have to make sure I get them aired up or I'll pinch flat going up curbs.

I usually ride 25's because that's what I pull the most of out of the shop dumpster.

700x23 @140psi

I run some Nashbar bargain tires at the moment. I seem to be wearing the crap outta the back tire though.

They're 700x25, and I inflate at around 100-110.

I run 25c Vredestein Volantes b/c I love the gum sidewall and I seem to have a penchant for hitting big bumps so I'll take what air cushion I can get without sacrificing very much performance. All in all, great tires, 500 miles no flats.... *knock on wood*

Gatorskin 25's at 80 psi on both bikes, so far no problems. They will slide out on a slick grate if you're turning while rolling across one, but grab again when the tire meets cement again.

23's gave me a rough ride so I switched to 25's. More better now.

panaracer 23 and a hutchinson 23 rear and front respectively, 90 and 110psi.

26x2.3 at 45 psi.

Fixed and Road are 23's at 120 psi.

Hard-Case 700x23c/125psi

23c specialized armillidilos 120psi front and back. going to change the front with something with a bit more grip though.

i used to have 25c bontragers but after a giant emergency skid i had to put a 35c on the back and a 21 on the front. my friend says it looks like a funny bike...and i don't mean TT frame

115psi in a set of 23c Serfas Seca's.. no particular opinion on 'em. They were on my bike when I got it.. I fscking hate wire-bead tires though. ugh.

conti ultrasport 1.25" - they ride alright, but I'm getting way way too many flats.
