Well, as some of you may know, I've been beginning to consider the roadie switch. My LBS has one of those adjustable fit mock bikes. I was wondering if they charge for using that thing. Also, if it's free, do you have to seem serious about buying a bike for them to fit you? Cuz I'm not seriously looking yet... I just want to be measured so that I have an idea what to look for when I look around for a used bike...

If you are serious about buying a bike from them, they will probably not charge you. This is maybe under the consideration that you're looking at a few of their bikes, and want to know what will fit you best. If you just want to walk in and use the fit cycle so you have an idea, and not serious about buying yet, my guess is they'd charge you. Most of the LBS around here are that way. Fees are usually $ 30-45.

Since you are looking to buy used, and not order something off the internet, I'd tell them the truth: You are considering looking for a used road bike in the near future and would like to be fit. Then ask what the fee is. Also, ask if you need to schedule an appointment, since someone will need to help you. This shows that you are considerate of their time and realize that doing a fit isn't going to earn them a lot of money, especially since you don't plan on buying a new bike from them.
