I was haunted by a noise that occurred on my commute home today. It was a very metalic ding that happened after a somewhat significant bump that I rolled over. There were lots of people around, the ding could've come from anyone of them... I kept going.
I thought about the noise the entire ride home, hoping a) something on my bike didn't pop off that would, ya know, hurt me in the long run; and b) that whatever made that ding didn't come from me because maybe I lost something.
Well, when I got home I figured it out. In showing off to a fellow commuter today, I had opened my saddle bag to show him the light I was using and uh yeah, forgot to zip the damn thing back up.
It's a small bag and I had a fairly good idea of it's contents, so I think alls I lost was a wrench that can be easily and cheaply replaced.
The story (and my attitude) would've been much different if the say, my far too expensive headlamp or all-in-one tools would've pop'd out as well.
I feel like everyday I learn lessons while on the road. Today's? Always check the saddle bag before you leave and stop when you hear a ding, ya fool. Sheesh! You coulda heard yerself!
