Cyclocross - size ? on Axis/ 1rst post

This is my first post. Anyhow I was measured yesterday and was told that I had a stand over of 80.7
and needed a top tube length of 56.1 min and 59.7 max. The Axis in size 55 stand over is 31.5 with a tt
length of 559 size 57 32 stand over with a top tube of 570. What do you folks think???
My background is mtn biking and I have never owned a road bike, I want to have a bike to try racing cross
and still be able to cruise better on the roads than on my mtn bike. Thanks........

Wow, you know your numbers pretty well. It probably means that you know your place on a bike as well, too, and your body would be sensative to an improperly-sized bike. The best thing to do is to purchase your bike from a shop that does custom fittings. I did this with my Cannondale Cyclocross, and the bike fits like a glove. In fact, I don't experience any of the discomforts that I did when I fumbled with the fittings of my old bikes over many years.

Even though you have the numbers dialed in for the top tube and the standover height, all of it becomes irrelevant if the handlebar is at the wrong height or length and the seat is at the wrong hieght and fore/aft position. Bikes today are very moldable to the rider. This is important because as a MTBer, chances are you are out of the saddle most of the time and all over your bike coaxing it thru technical singletrak. On your 'cross bike, and more so when it's on the road, you will be in the saddle more and your body will be seeking a position of comfort rather than a position of functionality.

I bought a 55 Axis about 2 months ago. The bike is plenty big as my inseam is 31 inches and 5' 10" tall. I bought a shorter stem to make it more confortable and smoother tires. Use it mostly on roads and trails.I have issues with front DR and I don't think it will ever be perfect shifting. Over all it's a good bike. Good Luck John

And would I be screwing up going with a 57 instead. I would gain tt length and only lose a half inch of stand over?

I took a size 59 for a small test ride today. If I threw a long swayback seat post in it I could maybe rock it, then maybe fatigue the F out of the top of the seat tube and get messed up (it was just a hair too small).

Besides that jazz? Hooooolllllllly wow! So light! Shouldering it? I could sleep with it hangin' off of me. Straight shot sprinting? Mmmmmmmm. Handling dried up roadkill-squirrel? No problem.

I'd like to try the 61.

Riding one of those I would probably get sunburn on my teeth.
