Hi. I'm a 41 year-old guy, 6'4", 275 lbs, looking to purchase a new bike, sturdy enough for someone my size/weight. Even though I'm tall, I actually have a long torso and short legs (inseam 32"). The bike will be used mostly for rides with my family (wife and two little girls). Any suggestions? -- Joe

This thread seems pretty similar, and I think the advice here would help you out:

Try out a Gary Fisher, or a Trek. I have a GF Tiburon, and am hovering around the 300 pound mark. I will have 800 miles on it after today’s ride, and I have not had a lick of problems. I love it, and I am sure you would be able to find a frame size to fit your 32” inseam.
Check out my web site for details on my Tiburon. But don’t limit yourself to what I say, check out everything, and have the LBS size your bike to you. Then you will have a blast on the road.
Have to run, a 20 mile trail is waiting for me.
I have the Trek 7200 FX - very nice ride for exercise and to go around the neighborhood and to the park with the kids. My husband and I both bought one and love it!

I have the 7200 FX, too. Good choice. I had to special order mine from my LBS. The owner said they don't stock them, but I saw three of them in stock, last time I was there. I guess they liked mine enough to try and sell a few more.
Our LBS had to order them in as well - but it only took a few days. I called a bunch of shops looking for the right bike and they all recommended the 7200 FX. Only of the stores had them in stock. So - there might be a short wait - but it's well worth it.

Yeah. I'm definitely glad I went with the 7200 FX. It was about a week, from the time I ordered it until the time I picked it up.
