Classic & Vintage - Performance Bike parts and clothing quality

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Hi,
I am trying to get back into cycling and I was wondering about the quality of Performance Bike brand stuff.
They are making or have stuff made for them under the 'Forte' label. I have seen handlebars, carbon fiber cranks, seatposts, Look style pedals, a bunch of other parts and riding apparel.
At first glance, the stuff seems ok and well made. We bought an entry level moutain for my wife and and it was a good value.
What are your opinions or experiences with Performance brand parts and clothing?
PS. I used to be able to 'wear' tight cycling jerseys when I was younger but I am afraid that currently it will not be very pleasing to the eye (if you know what I mean... :) ). Does anybody make a cycling jersey that is a little more 'forgiving' around the waist area? I am no longer the Lance that I used to be, Ha!

It is good stuff as far as I'm concerned.. I use their shoes, pedals, clothing, tape, tubes, saddles, etc. I've had one or two minor issues, but they have always cheerfully and quickly rectified the situation for me.

Like John said, I use their stuff too for a lot of my bike overhauls. Being close to a store in Campbell I think is what makes it great. I wear their clothes daily on my commute to work and you can call me cheap, but why pay more for something you can get cheaper.

Bike Nashbar is owned by Performance now, and they have some good values too. I think the Nashbar stuff is generally considered a little more "value" oriented, while the Performance stuff is maybe a little more expensive, but perhaps slightly better in some cases. One thing, though, Nashbar seems to have the best selection when it comes to parts that are compatible with older bikes, and they also have lots of stuff that's great for commuting, touring, etc., such as clothing, bags, racks, etc. They also carry Brooks saddles. When I need something, I'll usually compare prices and selection at Performance, Nashbar, PricePoint, etc. They all "price match," too-
I have had very good experiences with both Nashbar and Perfomance clothing. The "ultra" variety of performance shorts/bibs and jerseys have lasted very well. I have convinced myself that the top of the line Nashbar jersey is slightly better fabric than the Performance "ultra" but they are identical constructions.....I may be kidding myself. For lights, bottle cages and so forth both companies have satisfied me and have a no question guarantee. I used a Perf. rainjacket and nashbar gore-tex rain pants on a REALLY rainy tour and was delighted at how they worked. One fellow was using nashbar branded panniers and thye seemed to be sturdy and relatively watertight. I have bought wheels from both companies without complaint except that perf. used flimsy packaging and I had to return one wheel tacoed by ups.

I really like Performance cycling shorts and jerseys. If you time your purchases and buy in quantity, then they are almost always on sale.

Just bike with a regular t-shirt, earn the right to wear a snug jersey! and most performance gear I have is very nice, no complaints from me.
