New gen of MP3 players????

Hey all, I was wondering if anyone is using the new generation of MP3 players out there? Like the IPOD (and it's variations), among others. Are you able to buy CD's, make your own MP3's and then load them on these devices or not? Somthing made me think you can no longer do this and they can only be loaded with songs you download. Can anyone explain how the work?? :o

At this moment I am listening to one of the 1390 songs on my 20 gig Apple iPod. Every one of those songs was ripped from a CD using the Apple iTunes software. I still have 13.54 gigs of free space.

According to Apple's website, the iPods still have this capability
