Touring - 48 spoke rims

Anyone know a source for 48 spoke 700c Mavic T520 rims?

Not much help, but...

Peter White Cycles (http://www.peterwhitecycles.com/tourtand.asp) has them listed, but notes: "...Just a few left. Only available in a built wheel.". Note that his shop is closed through September 19th.

Saint Johns Street Cycles (http://www.sjscycles.com/store/vIndex.htm) (out of England), has T519's listed. Not sure how much, or how secure shipping would be for just the rims.

Other shops that pop to mind which may be worth calling to check if they've a "stash" about include:

Ernies bike shops (Ohio)
Bens Bike (Wi)
Wheelworks (Ma)

Lastly, Sheldon Brown at Harris Cyclery (MA) might know where to get some, or be able to suggest alternatives for you (he is captain bike after all...).

Try lickbike.com I think the T520 has been replaced with the A719 or something like that. CR18's are good to, but hard to build into a round wheel. :( ie, not as round as a Mavic or Velocity, but they make a good strong wheel, and are cheap.

i don't know if this will help....i've got a set of used mavic 27" 48-spoke rims.
used about 1500 miles before i switched to 700's.

getting rid of all my stuff so's i can move. pay the shipping and they be yours.
if you're in sw texas pick 'em up, or i'll be in albuquerque in a couple weeks, or in
richmond, va mid-oct, or china in nov.

otherwise they go in the dumpster. nobody in texas, especially tiny towns, rides
bicycles. i can't give 'em away here.

why not get a 48 hole velocity deep v 50.00 or less and a very strong and cool looking rim.

could be they need only 1 to match the front? :)

Thanks for the offer saddlesores, but I'm also after the 700C's. My touring bike has 48 spoke maxicar hubs with alesa rims. I rode them on an around the world trip, and later again in South America. Carried lots of weigth (water!), never broke a spoke, only needed them trued once halfway on my 25,000 mile rtw trip. So I'm sold on 48 spokes. I just bought new Phil Wood hubs, now am trying to find some nice rims. Heard good stuf about Mavic, not sure about the Sun's.

i switched from the mavic 27" to sun cr-18's in 700c, 48-spoke with phil wood hubs for
the 20000-mile around oz/nz tour. very heavy load, f+r bags, bob, lotsa water. front
did fine, but was not up to the load on the rear. replaced the rear in alice springs with a
rhyno lite about halfway through the trip. had no problems thereafter.

i went with phil/rhyno for my mtb tour wheelset. rhyno seems to be the way to go for
touring, as long as you can find some NOS made in usa rims. they moved operations to
china and have reportedly been using inferior metals.
