Bicycle Mechanics - Best book for bike maintenance???

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Hi all,
I'm just getting back into mtn biking and I'd like to learn to work on my bike. At least all of the adjustments and maybe putting new components on. But nothin' too big. I would take it to a shop for that.
Can anyone recommend a good book for bike maintenance? Thanks!

Ditto on Zinn's book. I've rebuilt my mtb using this book, as well as troubleshooted other day to day problems. It has yet to fail me. You can have a look at several pages of it at amazon.com. Be sure to get the latest edition.

To see it on Amazon, click here (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/1884737994/qid). :)
thanks for the replies! I picked up this book over the weekend and really like it so far. Very easy to read.
Another Question : Any good books for learning mtb riding techniques? There seem to be quite a few out there. Thanks!

I would liked it even more if it had real photographs. I find the line drawings a bit clumsy. Overall though, a really excellent book.
If you wants pics try the Haynes books,(the same that have car repair books.)
For in depth repair work try Barnetts manuals.
Some freebie sections were on Specialized web site, also see here for a new chapter monthly:

Has anyone read Bicycle Repair Step By Step:How to Maintain and Repair Your Bicycle by Rob Van Der Plas or Complete Bike Maintenance by Fred Milson. I was looking at Zinn on Amazon and saw these other books. Also what is the newest edition of the Zinn book.

I use the one put out by Bicycling Magazine and I have not had a problem fixing anything that I have needed to fix. I find it almost idiot proof and it must be because mechanical things are not my strong point. The pictures are helpful and the descriptions of what to do are step-by-step.

zinn appears to be the most highly recommended bike maintenance book for mtn bikes and road bikes, but what about for hybrids? will either the mtn or road book suffice?
