I'm a transplant in Florida and I finally decided to get a real bike (been riding a beater 80's panasonic) and start commuting to work. I live in Orlando and my commute is a meager 1 m each way. But I want to make my bike my main transportation around orlando, including the 5.4 m each way trek to my g-friend. Maybe once I get settled in I'll think about doing longer rides (50 miles ish).

The bike I bought is an 05' Giant FCR 3. I originally thought about getting a mtb style hybrid and looked at trek 7xxxfx series among others. But once I rode the Giant's road like frame with carbon fiber fork and straight handlebar. I was sold.

Not much else to say. If your in fl and dont mind new riders feel free to pm me. I'm def a lil nervous about all the florida rain and what will happen to me in it on my bike. oh well. Time will tell. ciao

Welcome, if I lived in Florida it would be like heaven. You have so many great trails and so much greenway space. Take advantage of it.

Welcome labonvie07. Congrats on joining the bike revolution.

I just got back from a 3 day trip to Orlando.
I visited "my old bike shop", Orange Cycle Works (http://orangecycleorlando.com/site/intro.cfm). Much larger store than it was when I lived there.

I saw bikes lanes everywhere and many more folks on bikes.
Maybe you were one of them. ;)
